Girls (under 16) Sporting Achievement Award Section

Bethan is really in the swim of things

Bethan Davie – Welsh swimming Champion

Winner, Girls (under 16) Sporting Achievement Award Category

Girls Under 16 finalistsBethan Davie has been swimming with Tenby since she was nine years old and has earned the reputation of being one of the most promising swimmers to come out of Pembrokeshire for many a year.
She currently trains a minimum of 14 hrs a week, which includes some early mornings and several trips to Swansea each week to train with the National Squad. Bethan is currently the Welsh Junior record holder in the 200m Breaststroke Long Course, which she broke when she was still 13 yrs old at the UK School games.

British Championships medal winner

She has won medals for the last three years at the British Championships in Sheffield and is a member of the Welsh Youth Swimming Squad.
She still, however, is a great supporter and is very encouraging to younger swimmers at the club and will take time to go to lower level competitions to support her fellow club mates. It shows what a modest and unassuming young lady Bethan is and we are sure to hear a lot more about her swimming exploits in the future.

Angharad James – Welsh Football and Cricket International
Finalist, Girls (under 16) Sporting Achievement Category

Angharad is a regular team member of Manorbier AFC’ talented team and a school pupil at Ysgol y Preseli. She has been selected to play for Wales at under 16’s age group following her involvement at the South Wales Regional squads. To date Angharad has played against the Celtic Nations, Finland  and Scotland.
Her commitment to training and match attendance is unquestionable – both at club and national level and she has rightly earned the reputation as a dynamic and skilful player. There is a lot of travelling involved but Angharad has coped well.
Not content with that feat, Angharad has also represented Wales at cricket at under 15 level and she has worked exceptionally hard to achieve this success - and deserves to be recognised as a very talented player and double international.

Hannah Lewis – Welsh Football and Hockey International
Finalist, Girls (under 16) Sporting Achievement Category

Hannah is a regular team member of Manorbier AFC and a school pupil at Greenhill Secondary School. She has been selected to play for Wales in football at under 16’s age group a year early, following her involvement at the South Wales Regional squads. To date Hannah has played against Finland and Scotland and her commitment to training and match attendance is unquestionable – both at club and national level. She is both talented and committed and there is a lot of travelling involved but Hannah has coped well.
Hannah is also a keen hockey player and has played for her Country at U 16 level (a year early!).  She has worked exceptionally hard to achieve this success since Hannah has only been playing hockey for two years. This year, at the age of 14, Hannah represented Wales at under16, which is a remarkable achievement for someone who is still has two years at this age group - and gave her a coveted double international honour which reflects the all-round sporting ability of this modest young lady..

Poppy Lewis – Tumbling Welsh and British Champion
Finalist, Girls (under 16) Sporting Achievement Category

Poppy has been a regular member of the tumbling team from Pembrokeshire which has done so well in National competitions and went a step further when she represented Wales at the British Schools Tumbling Finals in Stoke-on-Trent, where she was placed 5th in a very strong field.
She followed up this success by winning the National 3 Tumbling Championship for Wales and as a result represented Wales at the British finals in May. This was achieved on a great deal of commitment and hard work and she managed to raise the tempo even further  because she once again performed with precision and accuracy to win this class and return to Pembs as British Champion!

Well done indeed, Poppy!
