Sam scoops the Female Award
Sam Rossiter – Hook and Wales Cricketer
Winner, Female Achievement Award
Sam Rossiter has been a Welsh International ladies cricketer for the past six years and in that time has flown the Pembrokeshire Flag all over Wales and England as she has scored a lot of runs, including a couple of 90s for the Welsh team. One of those innings saw her just miss out on a coveted century because she had helped Wales reach their target and so remained not out just a few runs short of three figures.
Key Hook player
Sam is a key player with Hook Ladies Cricket Team and Hook Second X1, receiving Players Player and Batting Awards for both teams in the season just gone. In the men’s cricket in the county she more than holds her own and is held in high regard by team mates and opponents alike.
Hook Ladies produced the comeback of the season as they totalled 143 for 4 in their second innings to win the Ladies’ Cup Final and Sam was awarded Woman of the Match, scoring 31 and 68 not out (4 boundaries and a big six). She also took four wickets for just 19 runs in Neyland’s second innings as part of the Hook comeback.
Most importantly perhaps, Sam is very modest about her considerable achievements in the sport but the cheering from her team-mates at the awards evening showed how delighted they were for her recognition.
Molly Furnival Doran – Manorbier and Wales Footballer
Finalist, Ladies Achievement Award
Molly is a regular and vital team member of Manorbier AFC, who play in the West Wales Women’s and Girls’ League and in the Women’s Welsh Premier. Her outstanding play means she has progressed from the under 16’s into the under 17’s national squad and since the commencement of this season Molly has travelled to Macedonia and has been involved in internationals against Belgium (twice), Belarus and England in a European Championship qualifying match.
She was also in the squad which qualified for the elite stages of the UEFA competition as a player against Romania, Croatia and Spain. Although she did not make it into the squad for the elite stages, she was on standby (a real feat since she was a year younger than the main squad).
To have achieved this success to date there is no doubt that her commitment to the sport is unquestionable and Molly is a person who should be recognised for her achievement.
Shan Roberts – Ingli Runner’ Coach and Marathon Runner
Finalist, Female Sporting Achievement Award
Shan took part in the 2009 Snowdonia Marathon and ran superbly to become the female winner (& Female 40+ winner), whilst her overall position in both male and female was a remarkable 48th, out of 1317 finishers in a time of 3 hours:17 minutes and 3 seconds.
Her club is the Ingli Runners, who run out of the Fishguard & Goodwick area, and she was 2009 Ras Becca Fell Race Women’ Vets Winner as further proof of her stamina, will to win and high fitness levels.
