Pembrokeshire Schools under 11s rugby rules the roost

Mynydd Mawr Schools under 11s 0 - Pembrokeshire Schools under 11s 40 points

Pembrokeshire schools under 11s rugby squadPembs schools went to Pontyberem recently looking to continue their good form and produced another display which bodes well for the future as they ran in some quality scores but conceded none.
Good quick ball from the forwards, with Ryan Cole and Jack Tucker working hard in the tight, allowed half backs Oli Lewis and Danny Wainwright to dictate play whilst centres Kieran Griffiths and Thomas Hughes looked to put the wingers in space and this paid off when Geraint Powell showed his pace and power to beat his man and score in the corner.
This was followed by some good back play and forward power with Aaron Griffiths, Andrew Skone and Archie Thomas putting in some telling runs, which set up a good position for captain for the day Hywel Baker to crash over from short range and Wainwright converted
Despite the pressure, Mynydd Mawr put up some spirited defence and looked also to get the ball wide only for the ball to be spilled after a crunching tackle from Thomas Hughes that allowed flanker Sion Colella to secure possession which the Pembs backs put wide to Powell, who rounded his man, side- stepped the full back and was under the posts in a flash. Again Wainwright put over the conversion.

Stout defence needed

This stung Mynydd Mawr into action and they set up camp in the Pembs 22 and only stout defence from Adam Bowen, Tucker, Cole and the other forwards kept them at bay. When Jack Tucker put in a monster hit from a short penalty this dislodged the ball and gave Pembs some respite.
From the resulting scrum Oli Lewis sniped the blindside, beat the back row and managed a pass out of the tackle to put winger Ryan Conbeer on a charge down the left touchline Ryan steeped inside the full back and was able to pass out of the tackle to put Thomas Hughes under the posts for try number 4, and Wainwright again added the extras.

Changes rung in second half

At half time Pembs rang the changes with Jac Waters replacing Keiron Griffiths in the centre, Emyr Davies replacing Andrew Skone in the back row, plus youngsters Owain Evans and Kieran Allen coming on in the pack.
Pembrokeshire scored again after their  back row forced a turn-over which set theirbacks off again with quick hands from Waters and Thomas putting full back Osian Edwards on a charge, using his pace he rounded the defence to score. Again Wainwright added the extras.
Despite several attacks, Pembs kept a clean sheet due in no small part to the midfield defence and late arrival Osian Davies was then able to take his place on the field and Oli Lewis made way for Kieran Griffiths for the final ten minutes.
Mynydd kept attacking but a well timed interception from full back Edwards allowed him to gallop clear and finish the game on a high. Danny Wainwright capped a fine day with his fifth conversion from six attempts the ref blew for full time.
A fine display, and massive thanks and well done to all who made the trip to Pontyberem.
