Mighty Vikings will once again be the team to beat for the title
With the new football season already up and running Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk predicts that last season’s league and cup double champions Hakin United will be the team to beat in Division One
The Vikings have had an impressive pre-season, they won the Eddie Merry and Jubilee Shield and manager Gary Dawes knows that the pressure is on his trophy winning side captained by prolific goal scorer Paul ‘Jonah’ Jones.
Pennar Robins finished second last season, and they’ll have their eye on the title plotted by manager Chris Lloyd and assistant Gareth Southcott.
One of the dark horses for the title is Goodwick United who finished third. The Phoenix Lads’ boss Bernie Armstrong knows all about winning the title, he did enough of it in his playing hey day with top teams such as Fishguard Sports, Lamphey and Merlins Bridge.
Clarbeston Road had a fantastic campaign last season where they finished fifth and manager Huw Bevan has stepped down as boss and handed the reigns to Steve Brown. They’ve lost the services of quality striker Adam Hawkins, signed for Johnston and excellent player Kristian Griffiths has left to join Haverfordwest County.
Merlins Bridge has strengthened their squad considerably and they’ll be a team to watch out for. Matthew Price has come in as player manager from Welsh League outfit Newcastle Emlyn alongside Peter ‘Turkey’ Jones. They’ve recruited quality players such as Lee Hudgell (Carmarthen Town), Marcus Taylor (Monkton Swifts) and Hadyn Ralph (Newcastle Emlyn).
Benno Jones has stepped down in charge of Monkton Swifts and a number of players have believed to leave Monkton Lane and it’ll be interesting to monitor their form.
Narberth, Haverfordwest County, Herbrandston, Kilgetty, Solva and Neyland will all be difficult to beat on their home patch, but each of these teams are aiming to play better on their travels and pick up more points than they did last season.
New boys Tenby United and Prendergast Villa will want to consolidate their position in Division One in their first season back.
