Pembrokeshire’s top young hockey players took to the field over the weekend as the Under 14 girls' squads from all six County Performance Development Centres and four boys squads took part in the South Wales U14 Performance Development Centre (PDC) festival at Swansea University on Sunday.
The festival marked the end of the hockey development programme, which has been running across South Wales this summer and the Pembrokeshire girls proved unbeatable as they won all their games while the boys U14 squad - despite having six players under 11 - also played extremely well.
Angela Miles, Sport Pembrokeshire’s Hockey Development Officer, said the overall standard of play has been very encouraging.
“It was particularly pleasing to see players executing well the core skills practiced at PDC training sessions,” she said. “We now look forward to September when the PDC will offer coaching opportunities to under 15 and under 17 youngsters in the County.”
Templeton shineMeanwhile Templeton School represented Pembrokeshire at the Welsh Hockey Activate finals in Newtown earlier this month where they finished fifth – after drawing with the two finalists.
The primary school players had added inspiration from GB Olympian Sarah Thomas and Wales International Lee Ible, who were on hand to sign hockey sticks and give some valuable hockey advice!
