Match 1 - St Ishmaels versus Llangwm

Llangwm last pair holds on

St Ishmaels (160-7) drew with Llangwm (125-9)

The Llangwm last-wicket pairing of Richard and Andrew Brock survived the last over of their match at St Ishmaels to prevent Tish winning after they had looked firm favourites at one stage.

Andrew Williams (30), Stewart Kimpton (40 not out) and Andrew Palmer (three fours and three sixes in his 51) formed the back bone of the Tish innings as Richard Brock and Andrew Harries shared six wickets in a final Tish total of 160 for 7.

Llangwm lost early wickets as Andrew Palmer and James Salter produced fiery spells and Luke Brock (17) and Gary Phillips (37) had to steady their ship as palmer (3 for 30) and Kimpton (3 for 23) completed solid all-round displays.

But, try as they might, Tish couldn’t winkle out the final pair and Llangwm grabbed an extra four bonus points as their reward.

Match 2 - Hook v versus Lawrenny

James Buckle - runs for LawrennyHook batting bottles it

Hook (112 all out) lost to
Lawrenny (185 for 7)

Lawrenny beat Hook by 73 runs as the home batsman were unable to find any cohesion and only Ben Field offered much resistance as Rob Williams and Steve Lewis used their experience to good effect with six wickets between them.

Lawrenny were unable to build any big scores but had solid scores from Barry Phillips (33) and his son James (29 not out), plus 39 from James Buckle which included four boundaries and two sixes. Matthew Holder claimed a wicket brace for Hook but a tally of 185 for 7 was a huge target for Hook’s relatively inexperienced batting line up.

Jamie Phelps (19) and Ross Martin (12) made starts without building on them and although Field looked good until he reached 37 (three fours and two sixes). Brennan Martin and Rob Owen also managed double figures but Lawrenny eased home with just two balls left to claim maximum points as their reward.

Match 3 - Neyland versus Carew

Andrew Miller - superb all-round performance for NeylandMiller super-show fails to take Neyland through

Neyland (143 for 9) drew with Carew (173 for 8)

Neyland skipper Andrew Miller produced a superb all-round performance against Carew as he claimed six wickets, three of them from return catches, and top scored with 48 – but his team were still forced to hang on for the draw at the finish with their last pair at the crease.

Carew’s ‘Mr Reliable’ Nick Scourfield top-scored with 44 runs (six fours) and Simon Wood followed his century with another classy 39 but both fell to Miller. Phil Jones rapped a typically robust 30 not out at the end as Carew ended up with a useful final tally of 173 for 8.

It was a target that seemed within Neyland’s grasp as Paul Murray (28) and Scott John put on 40 for the first wicket and then John (32) was joined by Andrew Miller, who had nine fours in his innings before he was bowled by Ceri Brace with the score on 107.

It was the end of Neyland’s real hopes of victory as Carew skipper Rob Scourfield returned creditable figures of 4 for 27 and Brace had 2 for 19, with only Jay Dunford managing double figures so that last man Gareth Virgo had to negotiate the final delivery to prevent Neyland losing after so much great work by their skipper!

Scorer: John Laugharne (Neyland)

Match 4 - Narberth versus Haverfordwest

A direct-hit from Chris Phillips, fielding at point, takes the valuable wicket of Michael Scales.Town coast to easy success

Narberth (138 for 7) lost to Haverfordwest (141 for 1)

An excellent opening stand of 126 between Danny Potter and Richard James made sure that Haverfordwest coasted to a nine-wicket win at Narberth, who had struggled to 12 for 3 early on but battled their way back to 138 for 7 at tea.

Mike Johns, looking as solid as ever at 58 years of age, led the fight-back with a gritty 31 and Wayne Howells made his first appearance for some time to top score with 56 (six fours and a six) as all the Haverfordwest bowlers bowled tight lines and were backed up by good catching on a good track and lightning-quick outfield.

Potter and James punished anything remotely loose after tea and Potter had 11 fours in his 60 before he was well caught by teenage keeper Connor Lloyd off Ian Hughes’ bowling after Potter had previously given a sharp chance which Richard Howell downed at mid wicket.

The Narberth attack was hampered by the fact that Ben Hughes was injured and could only bowl two overs and Richard James included a lovely straight-driven six and nine fours in his unbeaten 64 as Karl Rhead joined him on the run-in as The Town reached their target in only 30.5 overs.

Match 5 - Cresselly versus Whitland

Matthew Davies 78 runs and a wicket in shock Whitland winWhitland win a shock at Cresselly

Cresselly (168 all out) lost to Whitland (177 for 7)

Whitland created the surprise result of the day as they beat Cresselly by nine runs after an excellent all-round team performance in which Matthew Davies was outstanding as he top scored with 78 runs, took two catches and claimed a wicket.

Davies had five fours and two sixes, taking a real toll on Cresselly spinner Ryan Lewis in the process, and found support from opener Paul Davies (31) and Kevin Pearce (23) as veteran bowler Richard Harris was the pick of the home bowling with two wickets.

The Whitland score seemed well within Cresselly’s reach as James Venables (41) and Simon Cole (39) put on 66 for the second wicket but then Paul Webb and Dai Lee shared six wickets to put Whitland slightly on top. Home keeper Neilson Cole (27) and Richard Harris (18) ensured that a tight finish was on the cards but Whitland skipper Mark Lee came on to remove Sam Harts and Stefan Jenkins – and it was perhaps appropriate that Matthew Davies should take the final catch to set the seal on his team’s win!
