Superb schools stay unbeatenPembrokeshire Primary Schools Under 11 Football Squad played their counterparts from Rhondda Cynon Taff Schools in their final round of the Welsh Schools’ campaign at Camrose FC and played superbly to retain their unbeaten tag.
With the both sides winning both games Pembrokeshire once again picked up all twelve points on offer and remain unbeaten going into the Welsh Finals in Porthmadog on Saturday 25th April, 2009
The Pembrokeshire side started off slowly with the cold and the wind having an effect on their style of play but Ben Aldred scored early on before RCT could settle down. Then the game became quite even for a time, although George Taylor and Scott Jones had chances saved by the RCT keeper. Matthew Dickinson, Harry Goforth and Billy Truman defended strongly and the second half saw Liam Cullen put Pembs 2-0 up as Donovan Griffin and Archie Beaumont-Denning both played well.
By the second game Pembrokeshire were starting to play neat football as RCT had a player less due to an injury and no subs were available so Pembs exploited this. Aldred scored twice with Taylor adding the third. Cullen scored two more good goals to help Pembs gain maximum points. This was not all one way traffic, however, with Natty John in the Pembs’ goal being called on several times to keep an important clean sheet.
Both sides played some skilful football on a wind-swept pitch but Pembs went two goals ahead through Dafydd Bevan and Jake Davies. Ben Pepper played bravely in the Pembs’ goal with Nathan Ammesley-Rees once again controlling the defence, ably helped by Leon Williams and James Worrall. Adam Davidson and Geraint Harries competed well in midfield, with Dylan Davies creating chances up front in a good all-round team performance.
Pembrokeshire started off brightly as Patrick Pearce scored a good goal, with Jake Davies adding the second from a cracking volley. Leon Williams scored two in quick succession before Dafydd Bevan added the fifth to give Pembs the maximum 12pts from the competition.
