Monday, March 9th 2009Great sadness in St IshmaelsThere was a great deal of shock and sadness in St Ishmaels, and amongst the cricketing and footballing fraternity of Pembrokeshire, at the untimely passing today of Eric Griffiths, who for so long was the backbone of the club and the mainstay of Tish's successful fight to stay in business during the 1990s. He was a gritty cricketer who used to bat without gloves and after retiring did all sorts of jobs at the club - and was understandably thrilled when the club eventually paid off its huge debt which came about in the previous credit crunch, because he had done so much to rid the club of a huge millstone. On a personal note, I regarded him as a great friend, never afraid to speak his mind but ever-ready to help, and everyone involved in sport will join me in extending deepest sympathy to wife Liz, children Glyn, Jeanette and Paul, plus his grandchildren. Eric was a genuine character and Pembrokeshire Sport can ill afford to lose a nice guy like him. - Bill Carne | ||||
