Brendan helps Windies smash England
Brendan Nash scored 55 runs to help the West Indies smash England in today's (8th Feb 2009) first test match - to the delight of his former team-mates at Lamphey Cricket Club.
Brendan guided the Windies' tail to a 74 run lead over England before the visitors collapsed to a paltry 51 all out in their second innings, their third lowest score ever.
He played for Lamphey in the 1998 Harrison-Allen Final where they lost to Haverfordwest and he was dismissed by a wonderful catch by Haverfordwest keeper Huw Scriven. He had arrived as a former Queensland player who could bat and bowl, moved to Todmordon in the Lancashire League and then returned to Australia.
Brendan failed to find his best form there and since his father, Paul, had represented Jamaica as an Olympic swimmer he returned to his roots and has played for West Indies in both tests and one-day internationals.
He was finally caught by Matt Prior off the bowling of Stuart Broad but by then had helped the Windies to a lead that was to prove surprisingly decisive.
Local players will remember his quiet approach and modest ways and will join pembrokeshiresport.co.uk in wishing this likeable all-rounder further success with the West Indies, preferably against countries other than England though!
