Buy a calendar and help a good cause
The hard-working committee which is raising money for the Andrew John Fund has come up with the novel idea of a sporting calendar for 2009 based on action shots of the current Haverfordwest RFC squad.
Andrew, better known as ‘Kanga’, has always been involved in sport himself and brother Paul shows off the colourful calendar, which has veteran flanker Andrew Thicker on the cover, like the John boys a Prendergast lad. There are a host of ideas to swell such a deserved fund since Kanga is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease and this one has created a great deal of interest. It is an ideal present for any sports lover, especially if they follow the Blues, and can be purchased for just £5 from Haverfordwest Rugby Club, West Coast (Quay Street). A quick phone call to Paul John (01437 764062) or Alun Wills (01437 767237) will also secure the calendar in plenty of time for Christmas.

Lee and Jack in Welsh semi-pro squad
| Congratulations are due to talented young Haverfordwest County players Lee Idzi and Jack Christopher because both have just been selected for the Welsh under 23 semi-professional squad.
Lee is selected to stop goals as one of the best keepers in the Welsh Premier League whilst Jack is included to score goals as a striker who has already netted 17 times this season for the Bluebirds. The Wales under 23s take on their counterparts from Finland in the International Challenge Trophy at Stebonheath Park, Llanelli, on the 18th November – and Haverfordwest County players, officials and supporters will wish both players all the very best in the match, as will all football lovers around Pembrokeshire, and Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk, of course! |

Well done Lucy! | |
Congratulations are due to Lucy Jones, . . . .
| |
| . . . whom we recently featured for her skills as the National Ladies’ Novices Champion in point to point races – because this week she made her debut under National Hunt rules at Exeter and sped to victory on Cresswell Quay.
Lucy’s winning debut was further enhanced by the fact that her mount, owned by local character Bruce McKay, fended off a late challenge from the 3 to 1 on favourite to win by half a length at the cracking price of 33 to 1. Racing against amateur riders of both sexes, she led from the front, and her delight was evident as the race was televised on Sky Channel 415 ‘At the Races’ and she was interviewed afterwards on tv. So well done Lucy – and I bet there was some celebrating done at the Cresselly Arms!. |

Cricket Umpires wanted in Pembrokeshire
With all the recent rain it might seem that cricket is a million miles away in this county but the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers are already looking to increase their numbers over the winter months.
To that end, a course is planned over ten weeks from the second week in November at Cresselly Cricket Club. It is an enjoyable inter-active course and a great chance for former players, or current players who would like further their knowledge of the laws of cricket, to get involved.
| Anyone interested or requiring further details, contact Trefor Evans (01994 240516), Richard Merriman (01994 240797) or Ray Kane (01646 682106). | |

Big Al runs well | |
| Rugby followers in the county will be pleased that Alan Phillips, the player/coach of Fishguard RFC completed the Cardiff Half Marathon in an excellent time of two hours and 35 minutes on Sunday. Alan is 34 years old and weighs in at 19 stone four pounds but he achieved his target time as well as earning a nice sum for Dr Barnardos in the process. He missed his team’s big win over Furnace but was thrilled by his performance – so well done, Big Al! |
