Rugby Forecasts for Saturday, 27th September, 2008

. . click here for actual results . .

They say that pride comes before a fall and after boasting about getting no fewer than ten out of 11 matches right the previous week I could only muster six correct forecasts in last week’s ten fixtures. Hopeless! Must do better this week!

National League Division One (West):

Narberth v Cwmllynfell
The Otters were disappointed by defeat last week and should be back to form with home advantage against a side which edged home 20-18 against Bonymaen but lost 25-18 to Llangennech. Narberth to win – quite comfortably.

Felinfoel v Whitland
Whitland were forced to work hard at home to Corus and have another difficult trip this Saturday to Felinfoel, who lost 39-8 to Narberth but then beat Dunvant 13-5. The Borderers will be too strong and streetwise for the opposition, even playing away.

National League Division Three (West):

Pontyberem v Haverfordwest
This match is being played because both have Swalec Cup byes. It is a daunting prospect for the Blues that Pontyberem have won all three games so far and picked up three bonus points! The Blues will find it hard going at Ponty and I think (sadly) they will lose!

Swalec Cup First Round:

Dinas Powys v Tenby United
Tenby played badly last week but could bounce back with a win against a side playing in Division Five (South East). No doubt about it – the Seasiders will progress to round two!

Glyncorrwg v Crymych
Glyncorrwg play in Division Four (South West) and by all accounts are a tough bunch who beat Pontycymmer 21-19 in their first league match of the season. This is a real battle for the Preseli Men and although I hope they win I fear for their chances.

Llanybydder v Pembroke Dock Harlequins
he Quins lost last week by a single point whilst Llanybydder were well beaten by Crymych. The Quins would need to travel well to win this clash – and I think they might just have a dose of travel sickness!

Neyland v Bedlinog
Neyland face one of the hardest ties as they take on a Bedlinog team which currently plays in Division Two (East). At least they have home advantage but I believe they plan to blood some younger players in this cup tie. Very hard to see anything other than an away win.

Pembroke v South Wales Police
South Wales Police were once one of the top ten sides in Wales before they fell from grace in the professional era. Now they are Division Five (Central) and so far have lost 70-0 at Baglan and 81-0 at home to Cwmgwrach! The Scarlets are red hot certs to win this encounter at Crickmarren.

Cilfynydd v Cardigan
Cilfynydd are always hard to beat on their home patch just four miles outside of Pontypridd but are now domiciled in Division Five (South East) so are not as fearsome as they used to be. Cardigan should keep their winning start to the season but they will need to show some ‘dog’ before playing their running game!
