They're football crazy, they're football mad!
Some football supporters will go to extreme lengths to watch a game.
Pembrokeshire Sport recently caught up with three football mad fans at St Mary’s Ground, home of Fishguard Sports, at the start of the season.
The soccer mad trio of Andy Mornock, Andy Langford and Don Scott, amazingly travelled from London to Fishguard to watch Pennar Robins defeat Maesglas 2-1 in the 24th Eddie Merry Cup Final.
Amazingly they travel all over the country to watch football from professional to non-league matches.
Every week they check online the website called the ‘Football Traveller’ to get the latest fixtures and plot exactly where and when they can get their fix.
Incredible record
Incredibly Don has been watching football matches every week for 40-years. Last season alone Don watched a staggering 520-odd games, while the two Andy’s watched well over 250 each. Between them they’ve been watching football for a combined total of 88 years.
Perhaps this next statistic isn’t surprising as only Langford is still married!
They told Pembrokeshire Sport that they have visited every football league ground, however, Langford confessed that the only ground he hasn’t yet been to is the Emirates, home of Arsenal, although he has been to the Gunners’ old ground Highbury. Mornock had also visited all the football league grounds, other than Colchester’s new stadium, and he intends putting that right this season.
Been before
And this wasn’t their first visit to Pembrokeshire because Don said that over the decades he has watched Haverfordwest County, Pembroke Borough and Milford United when they were all in the top flight of the Welsh league and he has also seen Monkton Swifts in action. They all said that they had received a lovely welcome at St Mary’s Field but were unable to accept John Evans’ invitation to join both teams for some post-match food because Andy Langford was due to deliver his regular mail round at 4.30am the next morning!
