June Stars of the Month – Daisy Picton and Colin Fawcett

We at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk are delighted to present daisy Picton and Colin Fawcett with our ‘Stars of the Month’ award for June 2017 in recognition of their endeavours over the last five football seasons with the all-conquering under 16 team at Hakin United FC.

They have been together as managers of the Young Vikings for even longer but in that amazing half decade of league and cup football they have amazingly lost only twice, won the league for their age category every season, won four cup finals and, perhaps their best performances as they won a hat-trick of West Wales Cup Finals to earn themselves the right to be named as the best team in the whole of West Wales.

Remarkable success linked to great self-discipline

This run of successes therefore included the remarkable ‘Treble treble’ and pushed The Vikings very much to the fore as they scored an amazing number of goals each campaign, with very few conceded and their performances based on a high-quality passing game and a team ethos second-to-none.

But perhaps the highest praise we could heap on Daisy and Colin’s boys is the fact that the management pair have always insisted on commitment and high standards of self-discipline that is borne out by the fact that training sessions have always been obligatory – and not one player from the squad has been sent off in the entire five-year period!

Vast experience pays off

Both came into the coaching area of the game after long periods of playing, with Daisy having played for Milford United in the Welsh League and Hakin United as a tough-tackling full back, whilst Colin played Welsh League with Milford United and Pembroke Borough before picking up trophies as a skilful goal grabber and creator with Hakin United, where he also managed The Vikings’ senior squad to success before stepping down.

At the final presentation ceremony of their time together before most of this squad of youngsters move on to senior football, their respect for Daisy and Colin was obvious as both received lovely gifts and kind words, all of them thoroughly deserved.

We are delighted to acknowledge their wonderful efforts as a pair who are a credit to local football and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk wish them every enjoyment from their love of sport in the future!
