Umpires: Ian Williams & Ian Phillips
Scorers: Craig Davies & Natalie Thomas
Venue: Gorseinon CC

Solid knock by Toby HaymanPembroke County took a relatively young and inexperienced team to take on a much stronger South Wales Association outfit at Gorseinon and paid the inevitable price.

With only skipper Jonathan Thomas, Ryan Lewis and Toby Hayman having much experience at this level, the county team battled hard nonetheless and several teenagers involved showed that they will feature again at this level as they get older.

Good start for SWCA until Ryan Lewis grabs four wickets

The South Wales Cricket Association got off to a great start via Kieran Howells and Tom Fowles against youthful Pembroke County bowlers Noah Davies (Llangwm), Jamie Lewis (Lawrenny) and Gethin Scourfield (Whitland) before wily old Cresselly fox Ryan Lewis came on to trundle his canny slow stuff and he had Fowles well caught by Harry Nicholas (Herbrandston) for 39 (7 fours) and trapped Howells lbw for 55 (6 fours and a six).

Tom Davies contributed 30 (3 fours) but was then bowled by Lewis, who completed a splendid eight-over stint of 4 for 24 as he had Josh Renkin caught by his son Josh Lewis for 14.

Then Lewis junior, who is just 17, got in on the act with the ball as he had Yacoob Ali superbly caught by Harry Nicholas, running in from the boundary, and completed an excellent 2 for 35 stint in his eight overs as he bowled experienced SWCA captain Geoff Fisher for a duck.

Late undefeated respective knocks of 17 and 27 (2 fours and a six) by Nish Delaveve and Rhys Harries took the home region to 206 for 6 wickets in their allotted 40 overs.

Jacob OwenCounty youngsters find it hard going against SWCA spinners

Toby Hayman (Burton) anchored the Pembrokeshire innings with a solid 31 (three boundaries) but Harry Nicholas, George Smith (Pembroke Dock) and Geraint Jones (Whitland) all went cheaply as Owen Bailey claimed 3 for 29 as he also shifted skipper Thomas for 14.

Will Collinson also shifted Noah Davies (Llangwm) but it was Nish Delaveve who caused most problems with a 5 for 28 haul despite the efforts of Whitland teenager Jacob Owen (three boundaries in his 28), Ryan Lewis (10) and Jamie Lewis (13 not out).

There were also 17 extras to boost the county total to a respectable level but in the final analysis there wasn’t enough experience in the team to really push such strong opposition.
