Division Two (West):

Tenby United 33 - Hendy 12

Tenby United skipper Luke Hansford led the way with two tries as his team celebrated a bonus-point win over Hendy which assures them of promotion to Division One (West) for the next campaign – and The Seasiders will scoop the section silverware if they can win at Pontyberem next Saturday.

The Seasiders were deservedly 21-5 ahead at half time and were full value for victory against a team who had beaten them 27-18 in Hendy and were themselves still in with a mathematical chance of promotion.

Pack power pays off for Morgan and Sutton

Tenby utilised their pack power from the outset as Rob Clark, Dan Allen and Rob Luly settled quickly into their scrummaging, whilst Luke Dedman and Mike Davies also undertook their tight five duties but also gave support in broken play to a fiery back row of Andrew Cooke, Barry Parsons and Hansford.

As a result, The Seasiders half backs of Ashley Sutton and man of the match Matthew Morgan were able to call the shots as full back Johnny Morgan posed a constant threat with his runs from deep positions.

Seasiders settle into an early lead

It was this potent mix that allowed the homesters to move into a 14-0 lead via tries by centre Mauritz Neumann and Hansford, the first rounding off a concerted period of pressure and the latter from a concerted forward play, both converted by Ashley Sutton.

Hendy responded with a close-range surge from Jordan Thomas that gave them an unconverted try but back came The Seasiders with a smashing try by Matthew Morgan, again goaled by the in-form Sutton.

Tenby remain in charge after half time

It was a similar story after the oranges as good work by Morgan, Mark Heywood and Scott James set left winger Jordan Asparassa on a run to the line – and although Sutton missed the conversion he quickly made amends when he added the extra points to Hansford’s second score.

Hendy had the final word as they claimed a try by full back Iwan Maize, converted by centre Gareth Thomas – but it was too little too late as Tenby were worthy winners and now stand a point behind Tycroes, who have completed their programme, but know that the match against Pontyberem will be far harder away than the 57-19 verdict achieved at Heywood Lane!

Tenby United:  Johnny Morgan: Mark Heywood; Mauritz Neumann; Scott Jones; Jordan Asparassa: Ashley Sutton; Matthew Morgan:  Rob Clarke; Dan Allen; Rob Luly: Luke Dedman; Mike Davies: Andrew Cook; Barry Parsons: Luke Hansford (Capt). Replacements: Nicky Guymer; Ethan Morgan; Alex Thomas; Rob Weston; Jonathan Rogers.

KO Cup Semi Final:

Aber beat Cardis to take place in KO Cup Final

Cardigan 14 - Aberystwyth 45

Aberystwyth moved into a KO Cup showdown with Tenby United after popping down the coastline and comfortable beating Cardigan at the King George Vth Playing Fields.

It rounded off a disappointing end of season for The Teifisiders since their aspirations of winning the Division Three (West) A title, the National Bowl and now the Knock Out Cup, have vanished during the run-in to the season’s end.

Aber confirm their ‘favourites’ status

In sharp contrast, Aber finished fourth in Division One (West) and always held the edge, despite Cardigan’s yeoman efforts, as the Mid Wales’ side led 21-7 at half time and were able to add more tries afterwards whilst limiting the home team to just one more try.

No 8 Sion Hughes grabbed two tries for The Cardis, both converted by Luke Rogers, but Aber had tries from both players named Stefan Rees, one at centre and the other at full back, alongside others by scrum half Gruff Jones (2), No 8 Lee Evans, outside half Matthew Hughes and replacement centre Tom Slinger.

Full back Rees added five conversions to help ease Aberystwyth through and now they will meet The Seasiders at Crymych to round off rugby in the county for the season!
