Haverfordwest Ladies win table-top clash by a single point

Penybanc 12 - Haverfordwest 13

?Awen Prysor and Steph HarrisHaverfordwest Ladies RFC kept their premiership promotion hopes alive with a nail-biting away win over table toppers Penybanc.

When the two sides met last September, Haverfordwest went down 36-19, and they went behind in the opening 10 minutes on Sunday after getting off to a sluggish start.

But they soon got a foothold in the game when returning centre Stephanie Harris, back from playing in Bath and with the Scarlets, converted a period of sustained pressure into a try.

Joanna Price missed the conversion but slotted over a penalty to make it 8-5 at the interval. As Lisa Neumann, Nina Colville, Lyn Egelstaff and Maria Phillips all made solid contributions.

Penybanc's pacy backs ensured a second try and a conversion for the home side, and they piled on the pressure when Haverfordwest went down to 14 players on two occasions.

But Harris' partner in the centre, Awen Prysor, not only tackled superbly but powered through to score the winning try in the corner.

Steph Harries was named player of the match for her overall contribution but this was an excellent all-round performance by the entire Blues’ Ladies’ squad.

Haverfordwest coach Ben John summed their win up perfectly when he said the team showed "awesome character to get this result."
