Ysgol Bro Gwaun and Taskers compete at Lady Taverners' Finals

Two Pembrokeshire schools represented the County at the Welsh finals of the Lady Taverners Cricket Festival in Llandarcy recently as Tasker Milward’s U13 and Bro Gwaun’s U15s did battle for Pembrokeshire against a host of other schools from across the country.

They reached the finals after winning their respective rounds at a cricket festival held at the Dome, Tasker Milward, recently organised by Sport Pembrokeshire, Pembrokeshire County Council’s sport development department.

Taskers beat Coleg y Dderwen but lose to Radyr . . .

Tasker Milward won their first game of the finals, passing Coleg y Dderwen’s total of 43 all out after Millie and Olivia Tamilia both took a brace of wickets apiece while Lottie Forrest and Niamh Smith scored 17 retired and 15 not out respectively.

In the next match they played Radyr, a team with with six Welsh Internationals in their team of eight, and pushed them all the way before losing out in the final over of the match.

Taskers batted first  and scored 57 for 7 with Millie scoring 11 and useful contributions by Maisy Davies (Captain), Gracie Morris and Tilly Field.

The batting from Radyr was of a very high standard; however Niamh and Lottie responded well for Taskers taking two wickets each and all the bowlers kept things tight but the experience of Radyr saw them through in the last over.

. . . before beating Brecon to come runners up!

Their next game was against played Brecon, who started like a train by scoring 35 in under three overs before their two opening bats retired.
Taskers pegged the rest of the team back and they finished on 75-2 off their eight overs.

Brecon started strongly again, picking up some early wickets with some tight bowling and good fielding. However, Caitlin Harrold hit 15 and Evie Charles’ 14 brought Taskers back into the game.

In a tense last over Carys Ribbon was the star for Taskers hitting two sixes to clinch a well-deserved victory, allowing them to finish runners up in the Under 13s section.

Bro Gwaun beaten twice – but show great spirit to end with a victory!

Bro Gwaun were drawn in a very hard group with eventual winner Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Gwyr, Brecon, and Radyr.

They were well beaten in their first game by Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Gwyr, with Mari Williams taking two wickets and useful contributions from Hollie Thomas and Megan Sinnott.

Their second game against Brecon was a lot closer but they fell just short with Hannah James, Kira Lewis and Emily Fearon standing out.

They found their feet in the last game against Radyr, scoring 102 with Lily Cox, Sinead Thomas and Mari Williams all retiring on 15 and with a good all round bowling performance restricting Radyr to 97.
