Pembrokeshire girls under 13 teamA high-quality game of football was played on Monday night with both teams looking to start the Welsh Schools season with a win.

After a tight opening quarter of an hour, Pembs took the lead through Sophie Cox, weaving her way through the defence and slotting home.

Five minutes later Pembs were 2-0 up through Evie Clark’s excellent volley following a good delivery from a corner.

Mollie Jones finished the scoring in the 1st  half with a sharp turn on the edge of the box and drilling her shot into the top corner.

Ceredigion were pushing forward as well, but were held at bay by a solid Pembs defence and some excellent goalkeeping from Bethan Chapman.

Pembs make changes but still stay on top

The start of the second half saw a few changes from both sides, and Ceredigion pushed hard to get back into the game. Pembs managed to weather the storm and take back control of the game.

Millie Jones, pushing forward from right back, scored with a superb strike from 25 yards out.

Lauren Cox then completed the scoring for Pembs cutting through the defence and rifling the ball into the roof of the net.

Ceredigion pulled a goal back with another great strike to earn a well-deserved consolation goal.  All players were a credit to their county teams.
