County under 15s miss out against Cardiff and the Vale Schools
Welsh Schools Football under 15s Cup Competition:
Pembrokeshire Schools 1 - Cardiff and Vale Schools 4
Pembrokeshire Schools under 15s recently entertained their counterparts from Cardiff and Vale at Kilgetty in their first competitive match of the season but were unable to start off the campaign with victory over strong opposition.
Early play was even but as Cardiff began to apply the pressure, Dylan Noot made a series of good saves, backed by some outstanding tackles from his defenders. Pembrokeshire's counter attacks led by Carl Thomas were dangerous and from a long free kick from James Gardner, Joe Pritchard headed the home side into a 1-0 lead which they held until early in the second half.
Carl goes close to doubling lead
A Carl Thomas shot also hit the bar but Cardiff quickly responded and equalised and began to exert constant pressure on the home goal. This brought the best out of replacement goalkeeper Ewen McCormick and Leo Sarrionandia, Thomas Davies, James Gardner and Tate Lawrence in front of him.
A cluster of unstoppable goals followed as Cardiff used up their quota of talented players in what had been a tiring match. The match ended in a 4-1 win for the visitors, but both teams were applauded off the field for their skilful and spirited performances.
The excellent facilities and the refereeing of Charles Davies also made this match a good advertisement for Welsh Schools County representative football.
Pembrokeshire Squad: Dylan Noot, Leo Sarrionandia, Tate Lawrence, James Gardner, Tom Mansbridge, Jacob Hipkiss, Carl Thomas, Rhys Morgan (all Greenhill School); Thomas Davies (Preseli); Ewen McCormick, Joe Pritchard, Joseph Griffiths (Sir Thomas Picton); Nathan Froment (Pembroke)
