County U11s edge out Afan Nedd in Tom Yeoman Shield

County U11s

The Pembrokeshire County Schools’ Football squad played their first round of the Tom Yeoman 2016-17 Festival against Afan Nedd Schools at Tenby AFC last Sunday and came out on top overall in four excellent matches that showed the talent in display in both camps.

Pembrokeshire A 4 - Afan Nedd A 1

Pembs started off very brightly and showed some good passing football between Harri John, Morgan William and Seth Woodhouse.  Iori Badham covered a lot of ground and some quick inter- passing saw Pembs have several goal-scoring opportunities. The Afan Nedd keeper played very well and prevented Dylan Kidd from putting Pembs ahead.  Jack Nicholas, Ethan Hall and Evan Rutherford defended strongly and Kyle Rossiter looked sharp in goal and his quick distribution set up wave after wave of attack.
Afan Nedd scored first against the run of play and despite Pembs pressure it remained that score at half time. Early on in the second half Taine Brace scored the equaliser for Pembs with a dipping long shot that left the keeper with no chance of stopping it before Morgan Williams very quickly added a second. Pembs dominated the second half against bigger, stronger boys and the nimble Dylan Kidd scored two good goals after some superb passing to make the final score 4-1 to the home side.

Pembs A 1 - Afan Nedd B 1

Despite having a lot of possession and at times dominating the game, Pembs could only draw with Afan Nedd B.  Harri John put Pembs ahead with a well-taken goal and the whole squad worked together to defend and attack as a unit. Afan Nedd equalised, but despite Pembs having chance after chance they could not score that elusive second goal.

Pembs B 1-  Afan Nedd B 3

Pembs went 1-0 down very quickly, showing the opposition too much respect and not appreciating the high tempo these school matches are played at.   Alfie Barnett kept Pembs in the game with some great saves and Jack Nicholas orchestrated his defence with Dylan Duffy and Robbie Sly. Pembs tried hard to the equaliser and with some great play by Ieuan Irvine and Dan John saw Max James score a fine goal for the home side. For a long time Pembs battled well with good performances by Toby Price and Rudy Poole but Afan Need proved to be too strong and they scored twice before the final whistle.

Pembs B 4 - Afan Nedd A 0

The Pembs side realised now they could compete in this match and played the style of football they were capable of. This was a very good team performance with Max James scoring a well-deserved hat trick and Ieuan Irvine also getting on the score sheet after a dazzling run.
