The annual Pembrokeshire schools disability swimming gala was held at Fishguard Leisure Centre on 31st January in partnership with Sport Pembrokeshire and Disability Sport Wales.

Over 50 pupils from 12 schools competed in 26 races. Ann Adams started the races, assisted by Bob Adams, with thirteen year 10 GCSE Physical Education pupils from Ysgol Bro Gwaun, as time keepers.

Times sent to ‘Swim Wales’ – and medals awarded

The swimmers’ times have been sent to Swim Wales and it is hoped that some of the swimmers will be identified to join the disability swimming talent programme.

Cllr Pat Davies presented all competitors with medals, which were sponsored by Stena Line, and was very impressed with the effort made by the swimmers.

Angela was delighted by response

Angela Miles, Disability Sport Officer at Pembrokeshire County Council, said she was delighted with the standard of swimming and it was encouraging that four new schools engaged for the first time this year - Redhill, Croesgoch, Fenton and Milford Haven School - together with one young swimmer from the elective home educated programme.

Schools were also given information regarding the Pembrokeshire Puffins disability swimming club, which is held every Sunday at Haverfordwest.

If anyone is interested in further information on disability swimming, please contact Angela Miles on 01437 776379 / mobile 07920 213651.
