Indoor Cricket Week Five:

Participating Teams: Haverfordwest A, Lawrenny & Neyland C
Venue: Tenby Leisure Centre:
Umpires: Neil Croucher & Pater Davies
Scorer: Jake Booth (Neyland)

Haverfordwest A strolled to two easy wins over inexperienced squads from Lawrenny and Neyland C, who played really well to record their first victory of the campaign in an absorbing clash with Lawrenny.

Match One: Lawrenny (38 all out) lost to Haverfordwest A (40 for 0)

Clive Tucker - bowled well for Haverfordwest AHaverfordwest A easily accounted for a much-changed Lawrenny side  as they shot them out for only 38 runs in 8.2 overs and then took just three overs to reach their target in double-quick time without losing a wicket.

The Town were also minus wicketkeeper Huw Scriven but Ben Field took over the gloves and they were able to call on the vast experience of Clive Tucker, who claimed 2 for 6 in his two overs of off-spin.
Nigel Delaney picked up 2 for 9 in his eight deliveries, Simon Holliday grabbed 1 for 9, Kieran O’Connor conceded only five runs from two overs and skipper Danny Potter was also economical.

Then Delaney and O’Connor ran well between the wickets to register undefeated knocks of 16 and 21 respectively so that they took just 18 balls to reach their target to show why they are the current Pembrokeshire indoor champs!

Match Two: Lawrenny (108 for 4) lost to Neyland C (111 for 2)

Jason Oatley - played well for Neyland CLawrenny produced much better batting performance against Neyland C as they recorded a decent final tally thanks to Joe Kidney (29) and James Buckle (27) alongside a top score of 30 from ‘Mr Extras’ as a result of some wayward Neyland bowling.

The bowling performance of the day still came from Neyland’s under 16 player Jamie Smith, however, as he picked up a splendid 3 for 13 haul alongside a good catch, with Sam Laugharne as the other wicket-taker.

Nathan Sutton (26) and Ben Milsom (22) gave Neyland a good start in response before Sutton had to retire and Milsom was stumped – but Jason Oatley used his experience to good effect with 30 before he was also forced to retire.

Skipper Ian Milsom was run out for 14 but Sam Laugharne saw Neyland through in the final over with an undefeated 11 runs.

Match Three: Haverfordwest A (163 for 5) beat Neyland C (28 all out)

Nigel Delaney - again in fine fettle for The TownIt was very much one-way traffic again in the final match as Haverfordwest A amassed a huge total and Neyland C were quickly dismissed to give The Town a final winning margin of 135 runs.

Nigel Delaney top scored with 44 not out after earlier retiring on 25 but returning late in the innings after wickets had fallen, with opening partner Simon Holliday reaching 27 before he was unusually run out, whilst Ben Field contributed 31 runs.

Danny Potter (10) was stumped by Ben Milsom off his father Ian’s bowling and Kieran O’Connor again chipped in with 16 runs as Neyland also conceded 31 runs to swell The Town’s tally.

Haverfordwest’s ‘spin twins’ Simon Holliday (2 for 5) and Clive Tucker (1 for 2) caused mayhem when Neyland C batted and no-one could muster double figures as Potter, Delaney and O’Connor also gave nothing away, giving their team a 100% record after four games.

Sadly, Neyland youngster Sam Laugharne injured his hand whilst fielding and was unable to bat – and we wish him a speedy return to action.
