Haverfordwest County 2 - Briton Ferry Llansawel 3

Substitute Mattie Hughes scored a late winner for ten-man Briton Ferry Llansawel to secure a shock victory against league leaders Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium on Friday night.

This was a disappointing result for Sean Cresser’s Bluebirds, despite defeat they are still top by a point as second placed Llanelli Town had their game postponed at Port Talbot Town, but The Reds have a game in hand.

Early lead

The visitors took an early lead when Steve Davey’s corner was met by a bullet header by centre back Ian Hillier.

However, the Bluebirds equalised midway through the first period when right back Matthew Broome's free kick in the box was met by a looping header by skipper Sean Pemberton.

Missed chances

The hosts were guilty of not putting their goal scoring opportunities away, Declan Carroll fired an edge of the box drive wide, Greg Walters saw his vicious close range effort hit Hillier in the face, Kristian Speake got on the end of Steffan Williams cut back and fired straight at Ferry keeper Luke Probert’s legs as it stayed level at 1-1 at half time.

After the break The Bluebirds pressed hard, but it was the visitors who took the lead when left sided midfielder Tyler Brock broke and used his trickery to get past defender Broome before confidently firing into the bottom corner.

Early shower

The visitors were reduced to ten-men in the 65th minute when goal scorer Brock was sent off for picking up a second bookable offence.

But the home outfit refused to lie down and got themselves back on level terms at 2-2 with a brilliant goal, Ricky Watts’ excellent floated ball in the box was met with a delightful Dan Williams volley.

Timely winner

However, the determined visitors then carved out a beautiful winner in the 71st minute when Hughes ghosted in with a far post header to stun the league leaders, and it secured Ferry's fifth league victory of the season, while The Bluebirds slipped to their second defeat of the campaign.
