Haverfordwest County 0 – Gap Connah’s Quay 2
Gap Connah’s Quay skipper George Horan bagged a brace to secure three comfortable points against bottom of the table Haverfordwest County.
The Nomads scored in the third and 78
th minutes to pick up their sixth win of the season, and this victory lifted the visitors up to sixth in the table.
Early goal
The North Wales outfit opened their goal scoring account early on when Wes Baines’ free kick was not dealt with by Bluebirds’ goalkeeper Scott James, as Horan gobbled up the rebound with an easy tap-in from close range.
The visitors nearly doubled the lead in the tenth minute when Sean Miller fired a long range shot just wide.
Nomads’ goalkeeper John Danby pulled off a cracking save to deny Sam Rodon header from a Kieran Howard corner.
Horan then had a powerful header cleared off the goal line by Bluebirds’ skipper Sean Pemberton.
Wicked volley
In the 25
th minute Luke Borrelli flashed a wicked 30-yard volley just wide of the far post.
As the Bluebirds pressed for an equaliser, Declan Carroll drilled a low shot which rapped the far post.
In the second period the visitors kept pressing with Les Davies’ threatening run and low left foot shot was saved by James at his near post.
It was a frustrating second period for the Bluebirds who didn’t really threaten in front of the Nomads’ goal.
The visitors sealed victory as Horan got on the end of Les Davies’ knock down inside the box to bundle home from close range, and there was no way back for the well-beaten Bluebirds.
