Ross receives warm welcome at Victoria Book Shop
Ross Harries presents the popular 'Scrum Five' and 'Scrum Five Live' on BBC Television and he received a really warm welcome from local rugby fans as he was in attendance at the Victoria Book Shop, in Bridge Street, Haverfordwest to sign copies of his new book 'Behind The Dragon - Playing Rugby For Wales.'
Shop owner Marley Davies was delighted by the turn-out because a number of enthusiasts bought two or even three books, all with an appropriate message and signed by the author, who also found time for enthusiasts of all ages to chat about their rugby involvement.
Over two years to write
A comprehensive hard-back tome, it took two years to write after he had completed Welsh prop Adam Jones' autobiography and had been nominated for a 'Cross Sports Book Award'.
He missed out to an Irish book about rugby entitled 'No Borders' and was invited by a publisher to think about writing a similar book about Welsh Rugby - and it really is a social history of the oval-ball game, right back to the early days.
"I wanted to feature the good and the bad times," said Harries, "and thought I had finished my work until Wales won a 'Grand Slam' and I found myself having to write an extra chapter," he added with a chuckle!
Many more copies signed as excellent early Christmas presents
As well as those in attendance, Harries also signed a considerable number of copies that were ordered by Pembrokeshire people as early buying for Christmas and Marley Davies was quick to praise Ross Harries for the enthusiasm he showed throughout the visit.
"Ross captivated all those who turned up and we can still obtain signed copies, especially for special occasions," he said, "and it is easy to see why he is so popular on BBC television, as well as his sports work with the BT and Premier Sports Channels."
