Promising start for County U11s
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football - Tom Yeoman Shield:
Pembrokeshire County Primary Schools Under 11’s Football Squad started their Tom Yeoman 2014-15 Festival campaign with a home fixture against Carmarthen Schools and came away with three wins from their four matches.
Pembrokeshire A 2 - Carmarthen A 0
Pembrokeshire started off brightly with sharp passing between Joel Mills and William Malone as Dylan Morgan and Ollie Teague put the pressure on the Carmarthen defence with energetic running and created several scoring chances.
The back three of Charlie Phillips, Leon Davies and Archie Hillier–Wood kept a tight defence with some fantastic covering and tackling. Teejay Gardner kept a clean sheet in goal and showed a safe pair of hands.
Teague scored Pembs first goal, converting a cross from Morgan. In the second half Sol Goodall and Finley Davies chased every ball, resulting in Iori Badham picking up a loose ball and calmly slotting it home to give Pembs a deserved 2-0 victory.
Pembrokeshire A 2 - Carmarthen B 1
The Pembs boys worked hard from kick off and passed the ball well as they completed an excellent double success on the day.
A defensive mistake allowed Carms to go 1-0 up against the run of play and then Pembs were playing catch-up before Teague scored the equaliser.
With minutes to go Teague scored the winning goal, much to the relief of the Pembs supporters, whose team then held out until the final whistle in a game that was a test of character for many home players.
Pembrokeshire B 1 - Carmarthen B 2
Pembs settled down well and played some cracking football before Kieran Blundell scored the opening goal, which filled the side with confidence. Kyle Kenniford and Macs Page worked hard in the centre of the pitch, combing well and supporting Joe Evans and Jack Jones. Iori Humphries and Lewys Boswell tackled back well with Joseph Davies and Owain Davies covering a lot of ground.
Archie Smith came close to equalizing on several occasions during the second half and at the other end Ferdy Stevenson-Shield made some brave one-on-one saves.
This was a very close game that could have gone either way and the final whistle saw Carmarthenshire have a very narrow victory.
Pembrokeshire B 4 - Carmarthen A 0
Owain Davies scored two quick goals to give Pembs breathing space as the whole squad played superbly and it wasn’t long before Blundell added another. Pembs defended strongly and counter-attacked quickly and could have scored more goals. Macs Page put the game out of reach when he scored Pembs fourth goal with a well-taken effort.
