 Primary pupils get on their marks!Pembrokeshire primary pupils took to the track last week for their annual athletics competition as schools from across the county entered a record number of teams for the third annual Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Athletics event.
 
Year 5 and 6 students competed across a range of track and field events including sprints, 800 metres, long jump, shot putt and javelin, along with relay races.
 

New events bring more pupils in

 
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire and Pembrokeshire Harriers, this year also saw the introduction of three new events for pupils with a visual and physical impairment – sprint, shot putt and javelin - making the event fully inclusive for the first time.
 
The Para events were also highly competitive with outstanding performances by Dylan Doors (Mary Immaculate), who won the para shot and para javelin with distances of 5m 78cm and 9m 00cm respectively, whilst Emma Cotia (Ysgol Y Frenni), won the visual impairment 50m sprint in a time of 7.77seconds.

Fierce competition

 
Competition was fierce with some great performances on the day,  notably by Hannah Pratt (Johnston School), who won the Year 5 girls’ Long Jump with a distance of 3m 27cm and Caitlin Morgan (Neyland School), who won  the Year 6 Girls’ 800m in a time of  2 minutes 50 seconds.
 
Meanwhile Oscar Roberts (Tenby Juniors) won the Year 5 Boys’ Long Jump with a distance of 3m 62cm, Iori Humphreys (Orielton School) won the Year 6 Boys’ 800m with a time of 2mins 34 seconds and Dylan Phillips (Goodwick School) won the Year 6 Boys Long Jump with a distance of 3m 94cm.
 
Saundersfoot School narrowly won the team event, beating Tavernspite and Pembroke Dock schools into second and third places respectively.
