The Gemau Cymru prestigious games were held in Wales recently with the gymnastics taking place at Sport Wales, Sophia Gardens on the 5th and 6th July and three disability gymnasts were iPembrokeshire disability gymnasts compete at Elite levelnvited to compete in these elite games.

They were Jemma Bowie-Hallam (Milford Haven Comprehensive), Jaydon Elliott (Milford Haven Junior School) and Anthony Triebel (who is educated at home).

All three gymnasts produced some excellent work, with Jemma performing on floor, beam, vault and A bars, and came second – and had the treat of joining her team mate, Catalina from Swansea, in meeting Jessica Hogg, Rebecca Moore and Lizzie Beddoe, and had photos taken with the Commonwealth Games women’s artistic gymnasts.

All six disciplines for the boys

The boys performed on all six pieces: floor, vault, high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse and rings, with Anthony gaining a third place and Jaydon a fourth place.

The gymnasts received support from Welsh Gymnastics Squad coaches whilst competing. Support from the governing body has been vital, and welcome for the gymnasts.

The Games were very successful and provided a wonderful opportunity, for the first time, for disabled gymnasts to compete in this Elite environment.

Their success should now increase the number of appropriately qualified disability gymnasts to apply for next year.
