Nina leads Haverfordwest Ladies’ try fest

Haverfordwest 74 - Burry Port 17

Haverfordwest Ladies RFC skipper Nina Colville certainly led by example as they started their Scarlets’ Cup campaign with a thumping win over a spirited Burry Port side on Sunday, January 17.

She scored four of the Blues’ Ladies 12 tries as Burry Port could never come to terms with their brand of running rugby.

Haverfordwest were a bit rusty to start with, having not played for six weeks, but they started scoring on a regular basis with a young but very exciting back line.

The forwards won them good ball with Lyn Egelstaff dominant in the line out.

Outstanding back row performance

The back row of Emily Banner, captain Nina Colville and the man of the match Awen Prysor were everywhere and set the tone for a dominant display.

The game had to be played at St Davids as the pitches in Haverfordwest were unplayable, but this was a great opportunity to promote the women's game with a sizeable crowd braving the elements.

Haverfordwest coach Ben John said: "We were a bit rusty as there were some new combinations being used, but as the game went on we started to gel and scored some lovely tries.

Well done St Davids

"I must thank St Davids RFC and their staff for a great welcome and for the use of their facilities, and also to ‘Man Up UK’ who were our match sponsors and kindly provided the food."

Joining Nina Colville on the try-sheet were Delyth Foster, Emma Evans, Lyn Egelstaff
Emily Carrington, Awen Prysor, Jessica Charles, Rachel Harding and Jo Price, who also landed seven conversions.

Training is held between 6pm-7pm for under 15s and 18s on a Monday night and between 7pm-8.30pm for the ladies. All new players are welcome. Training is currently being held at Tasker Milward AstroTurf. More details are on the club’s Facebook page.
