Neyland A lose proud six-year record

Indoor Cricket – Week One:

Game One:

Neyland A lose proud six-year record
Haverfordwest A got their indoor season off to a flying start as they easily accounted for a Neyland B team which had only five men but battled hard, nonetheless.

Haverfordwest opened their bowling attack with canny left arm spinners AJ Revu and Simon Holliday and Revu excelled in his indoor debut as he picked up the wicket of John Tennick for 19 (one six), caught by keeper Ben Field, whilst conceding only four runs from his two overs.

Nigel Delaney bowled a rare maiden over and there were tight overs from skipper Danny Potter and Nitin mathias, who claimed 2 for 15, including the scalp of top Neyland scorer Jason Oatley, who had support from Rod Murphy (15) before he was out from the final ball of the allotted ten overs, having struck two sixes in his 34 runs.

Revu smote a six from his first delivery but was out soon afterwards, well caught off the side by Murphy off John Tennick, but skipper Potter and keeper Field shared a half century stand before both had to retire, with Potter having four fours in his 25 and Field stroking three fours and five threes in his 28.

Simon Holliday finished the game with 11 Neyland A lose proud six-year recordruns from three balls he faced and The Town reached 85 for 1 with five overs still in hand.

Game Two:
Neyland A lose proud six-year record
Haverfordwest A inflicted the first defeat on Neyland A in about six years as The Town were asked to bat first and scored 109 for 3 before limiting the current champions to 108 for 5 in an exciting finale where Nathan banner needed four runs to win off the final ball but could only muster a two.
Danny Potter was again the lynch pin of Haverfordwest’s innings before he retired with 26 to his name, abetted by Nitin Mathias (20), Ben Field (10) and Nigel Delaney (11), plus an astonishing total of 30 extras which boosted The Town’s tally.
Neyland made a better start but kept losing wickets at key times as batsmen were run out, leaving Nathan banner to take them close with his classy 37 not out.
Messrs Koomen (12), Hannon (11) and Durrant 20) all suffered this form of dismissal, as did Bowles and Pritchard to leave Banner facing that vital last ball where The Town sensibly placed all their fielders near the back wall and Banner couldn’t pierce the cordon, giving Haverfordwest the narrowest of wins.
