Haverfordwest County were given a harsh lesson in finishing by Welsh Premier side Cardiff Met, who marched into the semi-final stage for the second season in a row.
Some costly errors by the Bluebirds defence were punished as the students were good value for their cup win at the Cyncoed Campus.
Adam Roscrow struck in the 37th and 40th minutes to give Met a 2-0 cushion at half time.
After the break the homesters added four further goals,; Sam Snaith struck the third in the 57th minute and three minutes later Elliot Evans added the fourth as the Bluebirds’ heads visibly dropped.
Tim Parker was on target twice with further goals scored in the 78th and 80th minutes to complete the rout.
Defensive errors punished
“Believe it or not, we played well in the first half, but costly errors in defence were clinically punished,” said Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones.
“Playing against Welsh Premier opposition has taught our young players an invaluable lesson tonight.
“We are comfortable playing in Welsh League Division One, but if we’re lucky enough to get promoted then the boys now know they will have to step it up a level massively.”
This Saturday, Haverfordwest County entertain Llantwit Major in the Welsh League Cup 2nd round, at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
