Cardiff Met 0 – Haverfordwest County 0

Haverfordwest County will be happy they started their JD Cymru Premier league campaign with a hard-fought draw against Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus on Tuesday evening.

The Met came from behind to win 3-2 at Aberystwyth Town last Saturday while the Bluebirds’ home game against Cefn Druids was postponed.

So Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones will be delighted his team came away from Cardiff Met with a very welcome point in their first outing back in the top flight.

The visitors created the better chances in the first half as they looked extremely dangerous on the counter.
Danny Williams’ speculative bicycle effort flew just past Alex Lang’s post and midfielder Kieran Lewis struck a vicious low shot which Met keeper Lang did well to stop.

Brad Woolridge headed wide from a Kyle McCarthy corner as the Archers kept the Bluebirds defence on their toes.

Midway through the first half the hosts should really have  opened the scoring but Bluebirds' keeper Steve Hall brilliantly blocked Harry Warwick’s shot when he was clean through.

Ricky Watts played a superb diagonal ball to set-up Marcus Griffiths who wasted a good chance to break the deadlock before Fawcett’s deflected shot was easily gathered by Lang.

At the other end, excellent defending by Scott Tancock denied Warwick a clear chance from inside the box.

Five minutes after the break a pinpoint cross by Eliot Evans was firmly met by a powerful header by Chris Baker which crashed against Hall’s crossbar.

Cardiff Met were on top but still they couldn’t find a way past some excellent defending from Watts, Cameron Keetch, Sean Pemberton, Alaric Jones and Tancock.

Evans tried a shot from 30 yards which didn’t trouble Hall, whilst at the other end Kieran Lewis struck a low effort agonisingly wide.

Ollie Hulbert looked a threat all evening and had he taken his chances the hosts could have secured the points.

Jack Wilson added more urgency to the visitors’ front line when he was introduced. Danny Williams struck a rising shot over the bar and minutes later and the Bluebirds' striker fired another low effort wide. Wilson saw Lang off his line, but the substitute’s lob missed the target.

Haverfordwest County stayed strong until the final whistle and thoroughly deserved a point from their first outing back in the top flight.

Haverfordwest County entertain Newtown behind closed doors this Saturday, 19^th September at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.
