Alec Colley Cup holders Whitland marched in to the semi-finals of this year’s competition at the expense of a youthful Burton Seconds’ team which had only Rob Griffiths, Richard Hayman and Steve Jones of any age.

In sharp contrast, the Borderers had first team regulars Wayne Howells, Jonathan Thomas and Dylan Blain available alongside well-known rugby player Dan Newton, plus others who have been around the block a few times to bolster their young players.

Put in to bat first, Burton lost wickets very quickly against Wayne Howells (3 for 5), Geraint Phillips (1 for 30), Jonathan Thomas (1 for 26), Stuart Harries (1 for 8) and skipper Wayne Jones, who bowled after harries had pulled a fetlock and grabbed 3 for 14.

Jack Davies batted throughout the Burton innings for his 43 not out and Richard Hayman scored 15 before he was run out, with ‘Mr Extras (17) as the only other double-figure contribution to their 86 all out.

Jack Davies struck early when Whitland batted as he trapped Nathan Evans lbw but then Dylan Blain slammed six fours and two sixes in his 50 not out and Thomas supported with 32 not out (five fours) as their side sped to victory in only 10.2 overs!
