Good wins for Haverfordwest Thirds and The Nomads in Ken Morris Cup

Ken Morris Memorial Cup:

There were good wins for current cup holders Haverfordwest Thirds and the newly-formed Nomads’ team, whose base is at Narberth Cricket Ground, in last week’s round robin matches.

Haverfordwest 3rds (82 for 3) beat Cresselly 3rds (81 for 9) by 7 wickets

The Town easily accounted for their Cresselly counterparts, who they restricted to 81 for 9 before comfortably reaching their target for the loss of only three wickets.

Veteran skipper Steve Davies (17) and talented teenager Charlie Arthur (15) were the only Cresselly batsmen in double figures against accurate Haverfordwest bowling from Ryan Lewis (4 for 26) and Richard Davies (2 for 16).

Then St Davids School head teacher David Haynes anchored The Town’s reply with a typically gritty 32 not out alongside Jason Phillips (16) so that although there was a wicket apiece for youngsters Arthur (1 for 12), Corey Lewis (1 for 9) and Josh Lewis (1 for 15) it was Haverfordwest who picked up their second success in as many matches.

 

Neyland 3rds (136 for 2) lost to The Nomads (137 for 3) by 7 wickets

After a defeat in their first match The Nomads bounced back to record their maiden victory in a high-scoring match against Neyland 3rds, who batted first and had terrific innings from Jake Booth (60 not out) and Callum Woods (32 not out) in a three-figure stand as Manu was the sole wicket-taker for the new team.

Ben Milsom-Mathias bowled well for Neyland to record figures of 2 for 29 but Ollie Cook showed the kind of batting form that once made him a key player with Narberth as he belted 68 not out, with Dan Warder (19) as the other mainstay of their batting.
