More than 120 Pembrokeshire secondary school pupils with additional learning needs have been taking part in a football inclusion project.
 
The project was run by Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development team - Sport Pembrokeshire - in partnership with Swansea City Community Trust.
 
Sport Pembrokeshire community coach Sarah Owens delivered football sessions at all secondary schools, culminating in a competitive football festival at Greenhill School. 
 
Games were played in two ability groups – the Premiership and Championship - with Ysgol Bro Gwaun winning the Premiership and Milford Haven School winning the Championship.
 
The winning teams were presented with their prizes by Richard Jones, Inclusion Manager at Swansea City Community Trust, who said he was impressed by the standard of play and sportsmanship shown by the players.
 
The games were refereed by Tyler, Jake and Tom from Pembrokeshire College Sports Academy and Rio, Harvey, Dylan and Aaron, Welsh Baccalaureate students from Greenhill School. 
 
The referees also chose three individuals - Ollie Monk from Sir Thomas Picton School, George Scully of Pembroke School, and Casey Brace from Greenhill School, who demonstrated exceptional football skills and sportsmanship with their fellow team mates and opposition, who were presented with Swansea City tops by Richard Jones.
 
Angela Miles, disability sport development officer for Pembrokeshire, said the project with Swansea City Community Trust had been a great success.  
 
“It’s provided an opportunity for pupils to gain football skills plus improving their self-esteem and learning to work as a team and gaining respect of others,” she said.
 
“We are very grateful for this opportunity working with Swansea City Community Trust and hope that this partnership can grow to include other sports.
 
“It is also hoped that some of the players will go on to join community clubs in Pembrokeshire.”
