Five-star display by league leaders Goodwick

 

Goodwick United 5 – Monkton Swifts 0

 

League leaders Goodwick United put on a five-star showing as they put Monkton Swifts to the sword at Phoenix Park, bagging an impressive five-goals without reply.
 
Swifts’ manager Chris Lloyd was quietly confident his side could come to Goodwick and take something back to Monkton Lane, however it didn’t work out that way.
 
After a cagey start Goodwick finally opened the deadlock on the half hour mark when Steff Hayes’ long throw in the box was headed home by centre back Jordan Thomas.
 
In the 37th minute the Swifts added a second as wide-sided midfielder Daniel James cut in from the left the 18-year-old showed maturity as he comprehensively beat keeper Jones with a clinical near post finish.
 
In the second period Goodwick continued to control matters as midfielder Rhys Jones was on target with the third, Jake Smith set-up right sided Will Haworth who made no mistake with the fourth.
 
In the 87th minute substitute Jonny Horgan drilled in the fifth to complete the scoring, much to the delight of Goodwick manager Chris O’Sullivan.

Kilgetty 2 – Merlins Bridge 3

 
Joe Leahy struck a stoppage time winner from the penalty spot to earn the Wizards a fortuitous victory at stunned Kilgetty.
 
It was 2-2, then deep in added time the visitors were awarded a penalty by referee Neill Crawshaw, up stepped Wizards’ skipper Leahy who confidently found the back of the net, pinching the points much to the delight of relieved manager Jay Kennedy.
 
This was the visitors’ twelfth win of the season as they sit second in table just a point behind leaders Goodwick.
 
The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when Sam Christopher got on the end of a well measured Jordan Williams pass.
 
Just before the break the hosts equalised through skipper Josh Bevan, but on the hour mark substitute Tom Mezzetta struck thanks to a Leahy assist to regain the lead.
 
Kilgetty refused to give in as they were rewarded when Steve Thomas struck an equaliser ten minutes from full time.
 
However, deep in added time there was a dramatic twist as Leahy was spot on for the Wizards who nicked the points.

Sonny wins it for Rooks with last kick of game

 

Clarbeston Road 1 – Carew 2

 
Sonny Phillips grabbed a late winner for Carew who left Clarbeston Road feeling robbed that they deserved something from this tight clash.
 
With the game finely poised at 1-1 a draw was written all over it that was until Rooks skipper Phillips dramatically scored with the last kick of the match that secured his teams sixth win of the season as they sit fourth in the table whilst the Road are sixth.
 
In the fourth minute the hosts got off to a flyer as Niall Kinsella opened the scoring, in the 37th minute Ceri Brace’s Rooks equalised as Archie Smith set-up Adam Muskett who found the back of the net.
 
The second period was nip and tuck as it looked as though it would finish all square that was until skipper Phillips scored late to pinch the points for the Rooks.

Lilley strikes important winner for Sports


Fishguard Sports 1 – St Clears 0

 
Iwan Lilley scored the only goal of a tight game for Fishguard Sports against rock bottom St Clears at Tregroes.
 
Sports manager Phil Jones knew this was an important game where they needed to win and claim three precious points, that’s exactly what they did as this victory moved them up the table to seventh position.
 
The visitors were unlucky not to open the scoring as Sports’ keeper Ryan Sinnott pulled off an important save to deny the Saints.
 
In the 16th minute the hosts opened the scoring as skipper Patrick Hughes set-up 18-year-old Lilley who made no mistake from close range.
 
There was no further scoring in the second period, but the Sports will be delighted that they sneaked it against the battling Saints.

Aidan is spot-on for Neyland

 

Neyland 1 – Pennar Robins 0

 
Aidan Rees’s second half penalty earned Neyland a vital one-goal victory against fellow strugglers Pennar Robins at the Athletic Ground.
 
Neyland manager Gavin Rowland was delighted his side narrowly beat the Robins as they secured their third win of the season.
 
The Nomads are fourth from bottom whilst the Robins are one place below, two points behind.
 
In a tight opening 45 minutes the Nomads created the best scoring chance as Rees saw his goal bound shot cleared off the line.
 
In the 56th minute the hosts were awarded a penalty for handball by referee Martin Jones, up stepped Rees who confidently slotted home from 12 yards, as he put it to keeper Rory Williams’ right.
 
Minutes later Max Bowman fired over from six yards after being set-up by Nomads’ on fire goal scorer Rees.
 
In the 68th minute Corey Richards rattled crossbar with a powerful header, the chance set-up by man of the moment Rees at a corner.
 
Nomads boss Rowland was delighted with his side’s win as his players attitude and performance was spot on this week.
