Haverfordwest County 5 – Caerau Ely 0

Dan Williams scored a terrific first half hat-trick to secure a comfortable victory for Haverfordwest County against Caerau Ely at an extremely wet Conygar Bridge Meadow.

This result sees Haverfordwest County move three points clear of Llanelli Town at the top of the table. Williams grabbed the headlines with substitutes Declan Carroll and Charlie Davies scoring late.

Heavy rain made conditions difficult for both teams, but it was the home side that adapted better and thoroughly deserved their five-goal victory and three points.

Bluebirds’ goalkeeper Conah McFenton had a quiet afternoon; experienced Tim Hicks marshalled the defence consisting of Alaric Jones, Sam Rodon and Matthew Broome. Skipper Sean Pemberton was solid playing just in front of the back four, Ricky Watts, Leon Luby and Kristian Speake worked tirelessly in midfield, also Walters didn’t stop running and assisted with two of Williams’ goals.

The Bluebirds deservedly led 3-0 at half time with Williams bagging a superb treble in just 14 minutes.

Hat-trick hero

The first goal in the 14th minute came from Kristian Speake’s low drive that Ely goalkeeper Ryan Fleming parried only for Williams to slot in the rebound.

Williams grabbed his second in the 22nd minute; Greg Walters released Leon Luby down the right wing, the youngster’s cross fell for Williams who coolly fired past Fleming.

The third in the 32nd minute was provided by a Walters deflected cross that fell for Williams to finish clinically at the far post, with the visitors complaining he was off side.

The second half saw The Bluebirds enjoy the lion’s share of possession and territory, and they added a fourth goal in the 83rd minute, when substitute Carroll made an impact and finished from the penalty spot, and on the final whistle substitute Charlie Davies scoring directly from a corner for the fifth, capitalising on Fleming’s handling error to complete the rout.

Next Saturday, November 25th Haverfordwest County face a stern test with an away trip to third placed Goytre.
