Crymych gain maximum points at Neyland!

Division Six Cricket:

Neyland 3rds (182 all out) lost to (183 for 4)

Crymych gain maximum points at Neyland!
Cricket isn’t generally played in rain because of the slippery conditions and a ball which becomes like a piece of soap for bowlers but Neyland Thirds and Crymych Seconds were clearly determined to overcome any difficulties as they enjoyed a completed fixture on the seconds’ pitch at the Neyland Athletic Ground.

“There have only  been four matches played in our division in the first seven weeks of the season so we were just glad to have a run around and a bit of fun,” a Crymych spokesman told us, “and we are grateful to Neyland for agreeing to have a game at last.

“We were delighted to win and perhaps that is why one of our young players said,
“It wasn’t bad actually – it wasn’t really wet rain!””

Neyland build a big score but Crymych claw their way back

Neyland Thirds batted first and did well to reach a healthy 182 all out thanks in the main to Ben Mathias (32), Stephen Murray (35), Ian Woods (27) and Ben Milsom (28) against the bowling of Andrew Thomas (2 for 15), Daf Wright (3 for 27), and Rhodri Lewis (2 for 30).

It looked a big score as Phil Keen led the Neyland bowling with 2 for 20 but Ollie Gouldstone batted superbly to top score for Crymych, with support from Dyfed Dion (47) before Rhodri Lewis staked claims for the man of the match label as he followed his useful bowling stint with 39 not out as he and Gouldstone put on over 80 runs to see the visitors home.

Then it was back into the Athletic Clubhouse for a deserved hot shower and the usual excellent tea supplied by the catering staff at Neyland, and a trip back through the Preseli Hills with 30 precious points in the bag to go with the single point they had gained previously this season!
