Davies steers Rooks to easy win

Carew were comfortable victors in their home match against Llangwm, with Tom Davies again a key performer with bat and ball as his 2 for 22 in ten overs helped limit the opposition to 130 all out before he rapped an unbeaten 65 as they won with more than ten overs still in hand.

Llangwm batted first and had five batsmen who made solid starts but no-one was able to go on and score heavily against an accurate and varied Carew attack where leg spinner Ceri Brace led with 4 for 31, ably assisted by swing bowler Simon Wood (3 for 13).

Pace men Tom Davies (2 for 22) and Sion Jenkins (1 for 43) also played a part in Llangwm’s demise as they were dismissed in the 43rd over despite cameos from Will Beresford (17), Joe Kiff (16), Noah Davies (26), Richard Brock (26) and Matthew Kiff (19).

Carew were given early shocks as Llangwm skipper Ollie Davies (2 for 29) shifted Tim Hicks for 4 in the third over, caught by Joe Kiff, and then Ian Sefton for a duck in his next over as Luke Brock pouched the catch.

But then Nick Scourfield (25) and Davies 11 (boundaries) eased the pressure before Luke Hicks (20 not out) was also there at the finish – and  Luke Brock was the other successful Llangwm bowler with 1 for 21.

Burton complete a bad week for The Town

 

Haverfordwest (229 for 5) lost to Burton (232 for 4) by 6 wickets

Burton batted really well on The Racecourse to chase down Haverfordwest’s commanding total of 229 for 5, a splendid opening partnership of 146 between Toby Hayman and Jonathan Venables helping them to victory with seven balls and six wickets left in their locker.

Put in to bat first, Haverfordwest lost Mikey Jones (11) to a superb Matthew Davies’ catch and Lee Summons (13) early on but then a partnership of 146 between Simon Holliday and new Town skipper Ben Field saw them increase the tempo with a terrific array of attacking shots.

Field was first to go after stroking six fours and a six in his 56 made from 60 deliveries whilst Holliday, who still appeared to be carrying a hip injury as his innings progressed sped to 127 in 135 balls before he was caught behind the wicket with 11 fours and six sixes to his name despatched to all corners of the ground;  a couple of them posing a threat to spectators sitting on the clubhouse patio!

The Town lost wickets in the late run chase as Matthew Webb (3 for 44) was the pick of the Burton bowling line-up, assisted by Johnny Scale (1 for 41) and Luke Hayman (1 for 44).

Hayman and Venables then batted really well as a pair before Hayman eventually departed for an excellent 77 (ten fours and three sixes), followed by Venables when he’s reached 60 (seven boundaries), both dismissed by occasional bowler Dai Davies (2 for 31).

But home hopes of snatching the momentum back receded as Martin James belted 33 not out and helped give Burton the chance to deservedly make up ground in the danger zone for possible relegation in the process.

Bellerby’s undefeated century helps Neyland to impressive victory

 

Neyland (201 for 3) beat Cresselly (200 for 8) by 7 wickets

Patrick Bellerby’s rich run of batting form continued for Neyland in an impressive performance against old rivals Cresselly where Sean Hannon’s Boys chased down the opposition’s 200 for 8 with seven overs and seven wickets still in hand.

Bellerby had amassed 98 not out two days previously in steering Neyland to an unlikely success in the DR Morris Cup semi-final and he reached three figures in this tussle in 118 balls and stroked 17 imperious boundaries in this classic knock.

Cresselly batted first and got off to an excellent start as Dan Sutton looked full of runs despite good bowling and typically strong ground fielding by the home side.

Sutton was first to go for 32 and Simon Cole replaced him and also looked cool for his 35. Phil Williams was again the cement for the visitors with some classy shots amongst his nine boundaries before he eventually fell for a top score of 80.

Alex Bailey (28) and Tom Murphy (10) were the only other Cresselly batsmen in double figures as Ross Hardy (2 for 32), Geraint Rees (3 for 47), Andrew Miller (1 for 32) and Tom Pritchard (1 for 21) were the successful Neyland bowlers.

Nick Koomen (29) and Ashley Sutton (33) provided good support for Bellerby as he controlled the run rate, with one of the bright spots for Cresselly being another two wickets for 15 year old Josh Lewis.

But in the final analysis it was Neyland who march on at the top of the table and still looking red-hot favourites to retain the championship silverware they won last season.

 

Tish hold on for a draw as Seasiders take the bulk of the points

 

St Ishmaels (146 for 8) drew with Saundersfoot (178 for 5)

The game at St Ishmaels petered out into a drew as visiting Saundersfoot scored a decent 178 for 5 but Tish rarely looked likely to reach that target and batted out time with two wickets still left.

Saundersfoot made a dreadfully slow start to their innings at St Ishmaels as they could only muster 17 for 1 in their first 15 overs but with half centuries from Sam Franklin and Nick Cope eventually managed a respectable final tally of 178 for 5 in their allotted 45 overs.

Franklin had six fours and a six in his 59 whilst Cope’s 56 included three fours and a six – and there were also double figures for Tom Mansbridge (17) and Danny Caine (13).

For Tish, teenager Harry Nicholas picked up 2 for 35 alongside canny slow bowler Andrew Pawlett (2 for 49) and veteran pace man Andrew Williams (1 for 53).

Brennan Devonald maintained his excellent form with top score of 51 (three fours and three sixes) and there was some support from Jonathon Pawlett (27) and Dan Howells (24) but Tish lost wickets at key times against fine bowling by Nick Cope (4 for 46), assisted by Danny Caine (1 for 25), Neil Powling (1 for 28) and John Mansbridge (1 for 9).

Lawrenny win with ease at Whitland

 

Whitland (120 all out) lost to Lawrenny (121 for 1) by 9 wickets

Lawrenny maintained their recent momentum with a crushingly easy win over Whitland as the home side were shot out for only 120 and Joe Kidney’s team took only 13.5 overs

Whitland’s strong-looking batting line-up for once failed to produce the goods as only Dylan Blain (24), Gethin Scourfield (23) and Matthew Davies ever stayed long and Brad McDermott-Jenkins led the way for Lawrenny with 4 for 29, ably assisted by Jamie Lewis (3 for 36), Rob Williams (1 for 31) and Ryan Morton (1 for 2).

Kurtis Marsh and Harry Thomas then shared a lightning-quick opening partnership of 85 before Thomas departed for 36 (six fours and a six) before he was bowled by Geraint Jones (1 for 47).

Marsh went on to blitz an undefeated 59 (including seven fours and three sixes) and he was joined by James Phillips (17 not out) in applying the coup de grace for easily the fastest finish of the day in the top echelon!

Division Two:

 

Griffiths boys take Dock to great win

 

Cresselly 2nds (232 for 6) lost to Pembroke Dock (236 for 7) by 3 wickets

Scott Griffiths was the hero as his knock of 75 not out steered Pembroke Dock to victory on another belting day for runs at Cresselly.

More than 460 were scored between the two sides, and The Doves’ total of 232-6 wasn’t enough as Griffiths and co reached their target with 2.2 overs to spare.

Cresselly had earlier recovered from losing Adam Chandler (8) early on but then came a stand of 124 between Scott Arthur and Mike Venables – the latter cracking 80 with nine fours and four sixes before being caught by Jamie White off Jake Davies.

Arthur went on to make 80 (seven fours and two sixes) before being bowled by Nick Daley, and contributions from Steffan Jenkins (17) and Charlie Arthur (12 not out), plus a quickfire 20 off six balls from Matthew Lewis, helped the home side to a good total.

For the Dock, Daley finished 1-40, Davies 2-59, and Billy Wood 2-63.

They started well in their reply though as the two Jake’s, Davies and Griffiths, put on 62 before the Lyn Richards bowled the former for 13.

Billy Wood (16) also fell but Griffiths motored on to 65, hitting seven fours and two sixes, but the Dock looked up against it when they later slumped to 183-7.

But it was Scott Griffiths, who had come in at No 4, who kept things ticking and he found an ally in Chris Boyett who made a crucial 15 not out.

And in the 43rd over it was Griffiths who finished matters with two boundaries off Charlie Arthur, giving him seven for the day, to seal a great away day for The Dock.

For Cresselly wicket takers were Richards (1-51), Matthew (2-54) and Corey Lewis (1-14), and Jenkins (2-43).

Kilgetty too strong for battling Glebelands Gang

 

Johnston (150 all out) lost to Kilgetty (156 for 5) by 5 wickets

For the second successive week Kilgetty kept their nerve in a run chase as Johnston’s difficult campaign continued.

The home side made 152 all out in 44 overs as Nick Davies top scored with 23, and there were other decent cameos from Geno Cleal (22), Liam James (21), and Curtis Hicks (21 not out).

But Jack Parkinson kept the away side on top with 4-31, while Christian Phillips was economical in his 2-13.

It was No 5 Toby Poole who then played the vital knock in Kilgetty’s reply with 44, while Phillips (29), and Kyle Marsh (22) also got vital runs.

It was Andrew Evans (20 not out) and Matthew Lewis (17 not out) who got them over the line though, despite wickets for Liam James (2-61), and one each for Keegan Codd, Mark and Curtis Hicks.

Llechryd easy winners in top three clash

 

Llechryd (200 for 7) beat Hook (99 all out) by 101 runs

It was second versus third at Llechryd, and the home side put daylight between themselves and Hook with a comfortable win.


A stand of 60 between James Betterley and John Curran got them going, ended when Betterley was skittled by Aled Phelps for 14 (three fours).

Curran, whose first three scoring shots were fours, hit nine boundaries in his 64 and after he went John Mansfield continued momentum with 52 (six fours).

There was also an important 25 not out (four fours) from Graham Keen as the hosts made 200-7 to scrape maximum batting points.

Matthew Holder (4-41) led the Hook bowling, with a wicket each for Brennan Martin (1-24), Aled Phelps (1-54), and Dai Hopkins (1-33).

But their reply was disappointing as they were shot out in the 29th over, with only Aled Phelps (24), Jake Wicks (15), and Martin (15) making any kind of impression.

It was Keen who ripped through the batting with 5-20 in his 4.2 overs, while Pete Betterley took 2-32, Rhys Beard 1-7, and Curran 2-21.

Narberth’s ten-wicket win confirms their promotion contenders’ claim

 

Narberth (108 all out) beat Carew 2nds (107) by 10 wickets

Narberth openers Richie Adams and Hadd Luff make light work of the Carew attack as they sealed a 10 wicket win – after Ben Quartermaine had bowled the home side into the driving seat.

The Rooks were all out for 107, as only opener Barry Evans really got going with 35 (three fours) before he was lbw to Mike Reekie. There was 16 from No 3 Robbie Hicks and Rhys Grigg (10) and Robbie Canton (11) helped take the total past three figures.

But Quartermaine took 5-18 from nine overs, while Matthew Johns was superbly economic to take 2-6 in 12 overs. Reekie (2-18) and Ben Hughes (1-20) completed the wicket taking.

Luff and Adams then wasted no time, with the latter smashing 55 not out (52 in boundaries) while Luff finished unbeaten on 36 (six fours).

Hay shines bright at Treleet

 

Pembroke (162 for 4) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (158 all out) by 6 wickets

There were runs and wickets for Andrew Hay as Pembroke had too much for Haverfordwest at Treleet.

The Town got a nightmare start when Nitin Mathias went without a run on the board, caught by Phil Hay off Jonathan Rogers – and it was Hay who showed safe hands again to give Rob Smythe the crucial wicket of Danny Potter (14).

The visitors did bat steadily though as Doug Johnson (21), Huw Scriven (23), James Marchant (26), Dan Field (22) and Max Rodriguez (16) all got runs before they were all out in the 43rd over – but their overall total seemed short in such good batting conditions.

For Pembroke, Sam Davies (3-44), Andrew Hay (2-24), Paul White (2-9), Smythe (1-47) and Rogers (2-25) shared the wickets.

White made 23 in the Pembroke reply before being lbw to Potter (1-35), and then No 3 Phil Hay (1) and Jamie Kaijaks (5) both fell to Marchant (2-28) to leave matters at 76-3.

But opener Andrew Hay cracked nine fours in his 61 and by the time he was stumped by Scriven off Filgi Varghese (1-14) Pembroke had reached 114 – and Rogers (33 not out) and Aiden Fraser (8 not out) finished the job in the 41st over.
