Luke stars as Burton bag deserved victory

 

Burton (174 for 9) beat St Ishmaels (151 all out) by 23 runs

Although understandable disappointed to be relegated Burton rounded off their season on a high note as they beat St Ishmaels by 23 runs at Oatfield Park in a game where fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout.

Burton looked in a bit of bother at 97 for 6 as Morgan Scale was the only man in double figures but late knocks from Luke Hayman (whose 55 not out included seven fours and a six) and James Davies (41) helped them build a solid 174 for 9 against Brennan Devonald (4 for 24), Archie Smithies 3 for 40), Harry Nicholas (1 for 19) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 44).

Luke Hayman then showed what an asset he is to Burton with a splendid 6 for 29 haul, ably assisted by Morgan Scale (2 for 41) and Matthew Webb (2 for 22) – and although Tish seemed up with the run rate they lost wickets at too regular a rate so that they were shot out in only 25.5 overs.

Skipper Phil Cockburn, who has had a really good season with the bat, again top-scored with 34 alongside Jack Nicholas (24) and Danny Richards (a quick-fire 22) but there was no-one able to provide real back-bone to the innings as Tish lurched to a fairly narrow defeat and Burton celebrated a good afternoon.

A splendid all-round performance by Brad McDermott-Jenkins was the feature of Lawrenny’s victory over near-neighbours Cresselly which enables them to claim the bragging rights over the winter months against a side which has ruled the area roost for many years.

Lawrenny’s final tally of 224 for 5 owed a great deal to the batting of McDermott-Jenkins (four fours and four sixes in his 79 before he was caught by Dan Sutton off Tom Murphy).

Strong support was provided by veteran Steve Lewis (five fours and two sixes in his 61) and Kurtis Marsh, whose classy 46 included six fours and a six.

Tom Murphy led the Cresselly bowling attack with 3 for 5, assisted by Ryan Lewis (1 for 30) and Tom Arthur (1 for 46), as Lawrenny left their neighbours with a sizeable total to chase down.

Dan Sutton gave Cresselly a powerful start with 34 in 33 deliveries and Iwan Izzard looked like he was back to something like his best form with a typically robust 84 that included nine fours and three sixes but when he was dismissed only skipper Ryan Lewis (20) made any further impact.

McDermott-Jenkins was again the star for Lawrenny with the ball as he recorded figures of 6 for 40 alongside Rob Williams (2 for 23), Kurtis Marsh 1-30) and Jamie Lewis (1 for 35) – and Lawrenny supports will be hoping he can carry on that form next Saturday!

Carew hold on for a deserved draw

Carew held on for a deserved draw in a late finish against Haverfordwest as skipper Brian Hall and lieutenants Nick Scourfield, Rhys and Tom Davies held their talented young side together with the bat after a tough time in the field.

Haverfordwest openers Simon Holliday and Danny Potter shared a partnership of 206 in the 39th over before Holliday, who had been dropped on 26, was superbly caught on the long-off boundary off Rhys Davies by Carew captain Hall for 94, an innings which included 11 fours and a six.

Potter went on to score a terrific 106 before he was also well caught on the long-off fence at the top end of The Racecourse, with Tom Davies as the bowler, having stroked 12 boundaries and in the inevitable late chase for runs The Town lost three more wickets against the bowling of experienced cousins Tom and Rhys Davies for respective figures of 3 for 40 and 2 for 54.

Tom Davies was also the backbone of their response with an excellent 93 (10 fours and a six) before he was bowled by Lee Summons, who ended with 3 for 24 alongside Clive Tucker (2 for 39) – and The Rooks also had useful contributions from Luke Hicks (45) and Nick Scourfield (24) in an absorbing clash.  

Llangwm bow out in style

 

Llangwm (212 for 4) beat Saundersfoot (210 for 4) by 6 wickets

Llangwm bowed out of the top echelon in style and showed what their potential is with a convincing six-wicket success over Saundersfoot where they showed they can apply themselves with the bat when they want to.

Saundersfoot batted first and amassed a healthy 210 for 4 as Danny Caine and John Mansbridge shared a stand of 180, with Caine striking 10 fours and four sixes in his 107 and Mansbridge’s 75 included 11 fours and a six.

But although Llangwm only took four wickets via Joe Phillips (2 for 47), Toby Asson (1 for 39) and skipper Ollie Davies (1 for 41) they did manage to slow the run rate in the middle of the 45 overs and this proved decisive.

Will Beresford and skipper Davies scored 48 apiece in giving Llangwm a three-figure start and although Saundersfoot had wickets from John Mansbridge (2 for 35), Cope (1 for 53) and Danny Caine (1 for 66) the Pill Parks Boys had further good knocks by David Lewis (34), Noah Davies (46 not out) and Richard Brock (17 not out) to steer their side home.

Neyland end the campaign in champions’ style

 

Whitland (131 all out) lost to Neyland (187 for 8) by 56 runs

Neyland finished off an amazing sequence of success to comfortably beat Whitland to maintain their huge safety margin at the top of the table.

With the league silverware safely in the clubhouse, Neyland batted first for the first time in a long while and their final tally of 187 for 8 came in the main through the combined efforts of Patrick Bellerby (39), Ross Hardy and Sean Hannon (27 apiece), Geraint Rees (22) and Andrew Miller (18).

For Whitland, the wickets came from Nathan Evans (3 for 34), Matthew Davies (2 for 39), Geraint Jones (2 for 40) and Wayne Howells (1 for 38).

Evans completed a cracking personal performance for Whitland with an attacking 68 after tea but only veteran all-rounder Wayne Howells (22) was able to stay long as the visitors’  six-man bowling attack all claimed wickets.

Tom Pritchard (2 for 42), Andrew Miller (2 for 22), Patrick Bellerby (2 for 8), Geraint Rees (1 for 34), Ross Hardy (1 for 19) and George Evans (2 for 0) were all successful as Neyland again showed just why they are comfortably the best side in the county under the leadership of Sean Hannon.

Skipper Davy seals title success

 

Llechryd (115 all out) lost to Narberth (117-7) by 3 wickets

It was a true captain’s knock from Narberth skipper Davy Johns as his side beat Llechryd to be promoted as Division Two champions.

Both teams were already assured of a place in the top flight before the game, but after the home side were bowled out for 115 it was Johns who struck 45 not out to help his side recover from 32-5 and be crowned champions by county club chairman Paul Webb.

Llechryd started the day with a 17 point lead over their visitors but after being put into bat, got off to  a bad start when Dan Hughes ran out Michael Carter (0) early doors.

James Betterley and John Curran took the score to 44-1 but then Ben Quartermaine clean bowled Betterley for 20 after three boundaries, and in the same over skittled Kevin Evans for a duck.

And when he struck again with a return catch off the dangerous Curran, who had hit five fours in his 27, Narberth were in the driving seat and it took a crucial knock of 35 off 82 balls from Jonny Lewis, plus 14 from No 9 Graham Keen, to take the hosts past three figures.

For Narberth, Quartermaine finished with an impressive 4-43 in 11 overs, Loui Davies 1-22, Johns 2-14, and Ben Hughes 2-10.

But Rhys Beard then resurrected Llechryd’s hopes with a fantastic spell of 5-22 in 12 overs, that included the wickets of Had Luff (5), Richie Adams (13), Mick Haltham (0), Loui Davies (4) and Jordan Howell (4).

Johns and Dan Hughes shared a stand of 49 though before Andrew Fletcher trapped the latter LBW for 22 – and at 81-6 the run chase looked back in the balance.

But Ben Quartermaine joined his captain and made a vital 14 and by the time he fell to Jonny Lewis, the title was in sight for Narberth and Johns, who finished with seven boundaries in his knock, was joined by Rhodri Dyer (1 not out) in finishing the job.

Hook youngsters really shine

 

Carew 2nds (115 all out) lost to Hook (138-9) by 23 runs

It was Hook who finished the season with a win as talented teenagers Lewis Miller and Owen Phelps showed what prospects they are for the club’s future..

The visitors made 138-9 in their innings, with openers Sam Rossiter (15) and more significantly Lewis Miller (55) getting the bulk of the runs, while youngster Cori Chandler-Hall showed his talent with three wickets for Carew.

The home side could only make 115 all out in reply though as they were ripped apart by teenager Owen Phelps, who took figures of 7-14 while Miller completed a good day with 2-37.

Elliot Waters top scored with 37 and Barry Evans made 36 in vain for the home side.

Glebelands Gang show true grit

 

Johnston (209 all out) beat Cresselly 2nds (116 all out) by 93 runs

Both teams were already relegated before this one got started, but then it was Johnston who notched their second win of the season, and a maximum 30-point haul, to ensure they finished off the bottom of the table as reward for their persistence and character.

Batting first, they made 209 all out thanks mainly to another powerful knock by Josh Hicks, who hammered 78 in a knock that included three big sixes. Skipper John Summons also made 45, and there was 25 from Nigel Davies and 24 from Keegan Codd to boot.

For Cresselly, Lyn Richards took 5-39, Josh Lewis 2-43, Charlie Arthur 1-25, and Corey Lewis 1-40.

The Doves never got close in their reply as they were shot out for 116, Nick Davies having another field day with 6-51, while Mark Hicks (2-26) and Chris Goodridge (1-12) helped wrapped things up as opener Neal Williams (30) and Joe Goldsworthy (31) top scored for the visitors.

 

Pembroke finish season on a high note

 

Kilgetty (165 all out) lost to Pembroke (167 for 4) by 6 wickets

Pembroke finished their season on a high at Kilgetty.

They bowled the home team out for 165, as Andrew Hay starred with 5-47 while there were also wickets for Rob Smythe (2-47), Sam Davies (2-44) and Hassan Aziz (1-20).

It was opener Hay who then led the reply with a score of 100 not out, 66 of which came in boundaries, while Aidan Fraser (23) and Jack Harries (9 not out) also made vital contributions.

For Kilgetty, Matthew Lewis (2-48), Kyle Marsh (1-21) and Andrew Edwards (1-22) took wickets).

 

 

Town win a close-fought tussle

 

Pembroke Dock (141 all out) lost to Haverfordwest 2nds 151 all out) by 10 runs

It was a close game at Imble Lane as Haverfordwest ran out winners by just 10 runs.

Batting first, The Town made 151 all out as James Marchant (38), Nigel Morgan (27),
Ross Dewstowe (24), and Paul Maggs (12) all made vital contributions, with Nick Daley (2-40), Jamie White (1-32), Jake Davies (5-28), and Johnny Hay (1-10) bowling well for The Dock.

The home side replied with runs for Scott Griffiths (22), Craig Butland (31), Daley (18), and Davies (5), but Danny Dewstowe (2-33), Will Phillips (3-35), Marchant (3-33), and Morgan (2-17) secured an away win.
