Carew maintained their unbeaten start since their return to Division One with a very comfortable win over Burton at Oatfield Park as they asked the home side to bat first and then chased down a solid home score with some ease.

Burton made a good start as they stood at 80 for 1 after Toby Hayman and Matthew Webb (24) opened well before the latter departed – but when Hayman was adjudged lbw for a strong 45 the home side were never able to achieve what seemed likely to be a 200+ score and ended up on 160 for 7 as Tom Davies (2 for 25), Rhys Davies (1 for 51), Shaun Whitfield and Ceri Brace (both 2 for 37) were the successful Carew bowlers.

Martin James (19), Jonathan Venables (12), Morgan Scale (13) and especially Luke Hayman, with an unbeaten 28, were the other main Burton batters as they finished on 160 for 7 from their allotted 45 overs.

Tom Davies continued his early0season batting form as he opened their innings and contributed a powerful unbeaten 90 which contained 12 fours and two sixes as Nick Scourfield supported with 35 and Rhys Davies chipped in with 28 not out whilst for Burton the pick of their bowlers were Johnny Scale (1 for 43) and Luke Hayman (1 for 21)

Magnificent Jones jolts The Doves

 

Cresselly (262 for 7) lost to Whitland (265 for 3) by 7 wickets

Having scored a huge 262 for 7 Cresselly might have been forgiven for thinking that they were unlikely to lose against Whitland but reckoned without a magnificent innings of 150 by Geraint Jones that saw the visitors to an easy seven-wicket win with more than 15 overs still in hand!

Dan Sutton and Phil Williams gave Cresselly a solid start before Sutton departed for 22 – but the homesters had an excellent second wicket partnership as Williams scored 62 (ten boundaries) and Simon Cole struck 58 (also with ten fours).

Alex Bayley (33) and  skipper Ryan Lewis also chipped in with five fours and a six in his hard-hitting 48 not out and Cresselly ended up with a challenging 262 for 7 despite the efforts of Whitland bowlers Matthew Davies (3 for 54), Geraint Jones (2 for 62) and Dylan Blain (1 for 59).

Then Cresselly faced a whirlwind as Jones took only 27 balls to reach 50, achieved three figures in 54 deliveries and when he was finally caught by Sam Harts off Ryan Lewis having smashed 14 sixes and six sixes.

Jack Bowen added 26 before Matthew Davies shared a stand of 184 with Jones as he included five boundaries in his undefeated 62 and Sam Harts (1 for 36), Ryan Lewis (1 for 48) and Tom Arthur (1 for 71) were the only Cresselly bowlers to take a wicket.

Holliday claims second unbeaten ‘ton’ on the trot

 

Haverfordwest (236 for 5) beat Llangwm (235 for 6)

A second unbeaten century on the trot by Simon ‘Doc’ Holliday helped Haverfordwest beat St Ishmaels in a high-scoring tussle on The Racecourse as St Ishmaels totalled 235 for 6 in their allotted 45 overs before The Town won by five wickets thanks to Holliday’s impressive knock.

Haverfordwest asked Llangwm to bat first and the visitors were soon reduced to 34 for 2 but then opener Joseph Kiff made them pay for two early dropped catches as he played some lovely shots around the outfield.

Kiff sped to a terrific 106 (including ten fours and three sixes) before he was eventually caught at mid-on with the score on 177.

Phil Llewellyn was the other Llangwm batsmen in form as he ended up unbeaten on 67, reaching his half century with a classic straight six as part of his five fours and two other maximums.

Ewan Griffiths also finished well on 14 not out as Adam James was the pick of The Town bowlers with support from Simon Holliday (1 for 30), Clive Tucker (1 for 38) and Lee Summons (1 for 37).

Mikey Jones opened well for Haverfordwest and reached 40 despite getting injured, with Ben Field (21) and Lee Summons (15 not out) also chipping in – but it was Holliday, who rasped 12 fours and four sixes in his 124 not out that proved to be the key factor in The Town’s success.

In-form Lawrenny smash Seasiders

 

Lawrenny (258 all out) beat Saundersfoot (95 all out) by 163 runs

On a good batting track at Lawrenny they knew that they would need a big total to test Saundersfoot and that is what they achieved with six of their batting line up contributing a reasonable number of runs before they ended up 258 all out with just one ball left of their allotted overs – and then shooting out The Seasiders for only 95 runs..

Leading the way was for the home side were Thomas Cole, with six fours and two sixes in his 62 and James Phillips (57, including five fours and two sixes).

Steve Lewis (23), Steve Campbell (27), Ryan Morton (23) and James Buckle (21) gave solid support against Sam Franklin (4 for 56), Nick Cope (2 for 59) and Tom Mansbridge (4 for 86).

John Mansbridge contributed a nice 40 for Saundersfoot (including seven fours and a six) but Nick Cope (12) was their only other batsman in double figures against the pace of Rob Williams (4 for 21) alongside Ryan Morton (2 for 14) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (3 for 6), with Jamie Lewis (1 for 49) as the other Lawrenny bowler.

Neyland’s all-round strength pays off

 

Neyland (178 for 6) beat St Ishmaels (177 for 4) by 6 wickets

Neyland continued on their winning ways by beating St Ishmaels at The Athletic Ground as they showed their all-round strength in successfully chasing down Tish’s decent score with useful contributions from six batsmen, rather than one big individual score.

Asked to bat first, St Ishmaels made steady progress towards a decent score but they were never able to totally dominate a varied Neyland attack in Which left-arm paceman Henry Durant (1 for 37), slow bowler Andrew Miller (1 for 38) and right arm fast bowler Nick Koomen (2 for 35) were the wicket takers.

Harry Nicholas (19) batted well before an unbroken fifth-wicket stand between Phil Cockburn (54 not out) and Brennan Devonald (18 not out) provided the necessary late impetus as Tish settled for 177 for 4, a target for Neyland not quite what Tish had hoped for but one which meant Sean Hannon’s boys needed to focus on batting well.

Nick Koomen (19), Patrick Bellerby (39), Ashley Sutton (34), Henry Durrant (17)  and Andrew Miller all chipped in before George Smith’s 32 not out saw them home, despite the efforts of Tish bowlers Andrew Williams (3 for 27), Brennan Devonald (1 for 52) and Andrew Pawlett (2 for 48).

Division Two:

 

Curran strikes again for Llechryd

 

Carew 2nds (175 for 9) lost to Llechryd (176 for 1) by 9 wickets

John Curran blasted an undefeated century as Llechryd again made light work of their run chase at Carew.

The opener hit 111 not out as the visitors easily overcame a potentially tricky target of 176 to win by 9 wickets.

The Rooks posted 175 for 9 as opener Eugene McCarney top scored with 34, including three fours and two sixes, before holing out to Joe Mansfield off the bowling of Graham Keen.

Fellow opener Barry Evans hit 17, Robbie Hicks 30 (four fours and a six), Dai Rees 28 (two fours and two sixes), Max Brindley 19 (two fours and a six)  and Jacob Knox 15 not out to help Carew to a competitive total.

For Llechryd, Jonny Lewis (4-27), James (1-26) and Peter Betterley (1-22), Keen (1-33) and Rhys Beard (2-47) took wickets.

And the visitors then set up their win with an opening stand of 93 between Curran and James Betterley, before the latter was caught by Rhys Grigg off Barry Evans (1-46) for 24.

That was the only wicket to fall though as Curran went on to hit 15 fours and two sixes, and was joined by Lewis (34 not out) in easing Llechryd home with 10 overs to spare.

Hook ease to victory over The Town reserves

Hook (117 for 5) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (116 all out) by 5 wickets

A knock of 46 from Aled Phelps helped secure a Hook win against Haverfordwest 2nds.

The Town 2nds batted first and posted a disappointing 116 all out, as skipper Nigel Morgan top scored with 36 (six fours) and Filgi Varghese whacked a quick fire 26 (four fours and a six).

Jamie Jenkins also made 17, but Matthew Holder (4-40), Dai Hopkins (3-14), Brennan Martin (2-5) and Aled Phelps (1-25) gave the home side a very reachable target.

And they duly knocked the runs off with 16 overs to spare as Jamie Phelps (25), son Aled (46) and Jacob Lay (25) got runs, while Lewys Rhead (2-29),  Paul Jenkins (1-35), Varghese (1-20) and Teo Kroll (1-20) took Town wickets.

Tight draw at Glebelands

It was tense at Glebelands as Johnston got the better of a tight game with Pembroke Dock.

The home side batted first and were led by Geno Cleal (54) and Josh Hicks (50), while Lewis Boswell hit 39 as the Dock had wickets from Scott Griffiths (1-40), Neil Brunton (1-32), Nick Daley (2-44).

The visitors then fell just six runs short of victory in their 45 overs with knocks from Luke Murray (35), Griffiths (45) and Billy Wood (42).

But Liam James (4-52), Mark Hicks (1-28), and Hafiz Farooq (2-19)  ensured Johnston avoided defeat for the first time this season.

Hardy hits Cresselly Seconds for six

Kilgetty (268 all out) beat Cresselly 2nds (127 all out) by 141 runs

Ross Hardy continued his scintillating form to lead Kilgetty to a big win over Cresselly 2nds as the home skipper hit a second successive century, and then took five wickets, to seal a 141-run win.

Hardy hammered 126 (nine fours and nine sixes!) and was backed up by Christian Phillips (57) and Andrew Evans (26) as his side posted 268 all out.

Corey Hill (3-14) was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors and it was Hill who then led the reply with 44 and veteran Lyn Richards hit 32, but Hardy took 5-20 to complete another superb all-round display, while Phillips (2-21) and Jack Tucker (2-17) helped finish the job.

Narberth (119 for 2) beat Pembroke (118 all out) by 8 wickets

A five-wicket haul from Matthew Johns ensured Narberth eased past Pembroke at The Lewis Lloyd Ground.

The visitors were shot out for 118, despite Paul White cracking four fours and a six in his innings of 60, with Andrew Hay (15) and Jack Harries (22) also chipping in.

But Johns took 5-17, and was backed up by Lee Peters (3-19), Loui Davies (1-8) and Rhodri Dyer (1-28).

Opener Richie Adams then ensured there were no hiccups in the chase with 57 not out (seven fours and a six), while Jordan Howell (34 not out) joined him in finish the job after Jonathan Rogers (1-38) and Andrew Hay (1-24) had taken early wickets.
