County youngsters miss out but learn a lot!

Pembrokeshire U14s (104 all out) lost to Carmarthenshire U14s (106 for 6) by 4 wickets

Umpire: John Williams
Venue: Bosherston and Stackpole Cricket Club

Pembrokeshire under 14s failed to repeat their successful start to the season as they were unable to build a sizeable score to test their counterparts from Carmarthenshire at the picturesque Stackpole & Bosherston ground.

Skipper George bats well for Pembs

Pembrokeshire were asked to bat first and were all out for 104 as top scorer was captain George Jenkins of Hook, who scored 32 and held the innings together well. He was ably assisted by Morgan Greive of Carew, Gethin Scourfield of Whitland CC and Rhys Grigg of Carew CC.
J Scourfield from Carmarthen bowled exceptionally well and returned figures of 5 for 15, J Lilley also took 3 wickets for 19 runs and J Williams had 1 wicket for 9 runs.

Carms’ batting starts really well

When Carmarthen batted they started off like a dream with Welsh internationals I Phillips and C Collins-Davies playing some exceptional cricket. When they were on 43 a bowling change brought on Loui Davies of Narberth and with his first ball he clean bowled Phillips for 11 before he finished with figures of 1 for 30 off his 9 overs.

William Hughes of Neyland then took the prize wicket of Collins-Davies and Pembrokeshire were back in the game. Seizing the situation, George Jenkins then brought himself on to bowl with Gethin Scourfield and together they slowly pulled the game back in Pembrokeshire’s control as wickets then fell at regular intervals and the game became a very intense affair.

Pembs back in contention until late stand

At 66 for 6 Pembrokeshire were in the game as Gethin Scourfield returned figures of 2 wickets for 3 runs off his 6 overs and George Jenkins had 2 for 13 off his 9 overs.

But at this stage Carmarthen re-grouped and with some concentrated batted from H Jones and T Westcott, both with 16 not out, crossed the winning line with one ball to go in the 40 overs a side match.

Both sides will learn a lot from this game and look forward to their 40-over return match in Carmarthenshire and also their 2 x 20/20 games already organised for the 15th and 29th of July.
