County Under 10s played Mid Glamorgan in double header

Pembrokeshire Cricket Under 10s

Last week was a busy one for the Pembrokeshire Cricket under 10s because after travelling to Kidwelly last Sunday they faced Mid Glamorgan in a double header, home on Monday and away on Wednesday.

Monday started with a lot more rain than forecast which led to a change of venue. Lawrenny kindly offered to host on very short notice and within 40 minutes of being contacted they were marking out a strip! Thanks must also go, though, to Haverfordwest groundsmen Martin Thomas, whose six hours work on Sunday was spoiled by heavy showers.

Played two quite well but lost them both

“We played two T20s on the Monday, but in the first our batting struggled to get going with Olly Cook (9), Olly Badham (14) and Sidak (18) only batsmen to really get going. Olly Hicks showed great determination as well, digging in when we needed him to. In reply, Mid Glam passed our total with Olly Nutty and Dillon Lewis picking up our wickets.

“Bowling first in the second T20 we started well and picked up wickets regularly with Griff Jenkins, Taylor Lewis, Olly Cook & Olly Badham all chipping in, along with a great catch from Nutty and a cracking run out from Badham. Griff (10) and Badham (9) top scored as we finished 29 runs short in reply. A wet day’s cricket but everyone was delighted to get the game in. Huge thanks to Lawrenny CC and especially Steve Lewis, Malcolm Thomas and Chris Williams for preparing the wicket

Two v T20 Test match format chosen . . .

“Our return trip to Mid Glamorgan was on Wednesday and we luckily book-ended Storm Francis nicely as a sunny day with a slight breeze awaited us at Tondu Cricket Club. A two innings T20 Test Match was the format and in the first innings the 10s pulled out their best performance of the season.

“They restricted Mid Glamorgan to 104/6 while finishing just one run behind in our innings. Most importantly for the coaches we only lost two wickets and put into practice everything we had talked about batting wise in the previous few games with our running between the wickets showing a remarkable improvement.

. . . And very close at the half-way stage

“Two wickets apiece for Charlie Holder and Alex Blowers, along with a wicket for Taylor and great catches from Olly Nutty and Griff Jenkins helped us restrict their total. In reply Griff and Olly Badham batted really well, rotating strike and putting the bad ball away in a 48 run partnership before each player was retired. (Griff on 24 not out and Olly on 21 not out. Charlie Holder (9) and Charlie Welch (11 not out) continued the good work before they took us to within one run of their total.

Crump leads Mid Glam to victory

“In the second innings Mid Glamorgan skipper Joshua-James Crump showed his great potential, smashing 51 not out in 29 balls with many 4s and a big 6 which took the game away from us. A wicket from Olly Badham, plus a wicket and a catch from Dillon Lewis were the only wickets to fall.

“Dillon Lewis (8) & Olly Cook (9) both hit two boundaries and were the best batsmen of the reply for Pembrokeshire 10s. Thanks must go to Rhod and the Mid Glamorgan coaches for a fantastic few days of cricket

And finally . . .

“There were plenty of positives for the under 10s from both games and remarkable improvements throughout the week, especially batting-wise, which particularly pleased the coaching team. The squad’s great attitude was also a major positive so far with everyone really enjoying every opportunity they've had."
