Cardiff City Development outfit scored a goal in each half to gain a hard fought victory over Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Goals from prolific striker Rhys Healey and Danny Johnson gave them the verdict over a Bluebirds squad who played some excellent football on the night against the professionals from Cardiff.

Bright start

The Bluebirds started brightly and City keeper Charlie Horton was the first in action as he stopped a long range shot from Jack Britton. Greg Walters worked hard up front and he created space for Jordan Follows to have a low drive at goal.

The visitors opened the scoring against the run of play in the 23rd minute. The Bluebirds conceded possession on the edge of their area, and striker Rhys Healey, took a touch before placing a right-footed shot in the far corner past outstretched keeper Craig Morris.

Morris tipped a vicious shot from former Crystal Palace star Kagisho Dikgacoi over the crossbar, Dikgacoi played in the Barclays Premiership with Crystal Palace  last season.

Haverfordwest County trailed 1-0 at half time and  County manager Wayne Jones brought on youngsters Liam Fawcett, Sam Wilson, Laurie Haworth and also Elliott Thomas and Sean Pemberton entered the fray midway through the second period.

Cardiff City Development coach Quinton Fortune, a former Manchester United star, brought on Dane Griffiths, Theo Wharton and Tyler Roache at the start of the second half.

Missed chances

Walters struck a free-kick high and wide and Haworth headed straight at keeper Horton as the Bluebirds pressed for an equaliser.

However, in the 83rd minute Danny Johnson added a second goal for the visitors. The left sided-midfielder was strong in the tackle and he unleashed a left-footed drive to the right of Morris.
