Bluebirds’ super-sub Morgans scores late winner

MacWhirter Welsh League Division One

Pontardawe Town 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Haverfordwest County came from behind to secure another excellent victory on the road, this time at the expense of Pontardawe Town, as this clash was moved Briton Ferry.
Bluebirds’ super-sub Morgans scores late winner
The visitors got off to a poor start and found themselves a goal adrift with barely ten minutes on the clock. A long throw-in in the box led to centre back James Evans heading home totally unmarked.

Formation change

The Bluebirds brought on influential Rob Morgans in place of Adam Raymond at the start of the second half, and they also changed the formation from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1, that certainly worked in their favour.

Steffan Williams equalised with a peach of a header on the hour mark. Morgans and Jack Christopher combined with the latter crossing to Williams, who leaped like a salmon out of water to score at the far post.

Super-sub

Ten minutes from the end and super-sub Morgans grabbed the winner for the second game in a row. He did brilliantly to beat a defender and goalkeeper with good turn of speed to a long ball down the park, and showed tremendous composure to score and secure the points. This result has kept the Bluebirds still in with an outside chance of still clinching second spot and promotion to the Welsh Premier.

Haverfordwest County play their last game of season this Saturday, away to struggling Cwmbran Celtic.
