Haverfordwest County 6 - Port Talbot 2

Haverfordwest County produced a six-star performance to comfortably despatch struggling Port Talbot at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

After losing heavily last week at Goytre the Bluebirds reacted positively this week by scoring six goals to keep their fans happy.

Own goal

The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute, when Jonathan Hood’s cross was deflected off home centre back Jamie Evans and into his own net.

Hood had earlier missed two golden opportunities, but The Bluebirds squared matters when Rhys Dalling struck a vicious shot that flew into the middle of the net.

The homesters then took the lead in the 35th minute; Steffan Williams cut in from the right and buried his low shot in the far corner. Williams added his second of the game just before the break, the left sided midfielder struck a carefully-placed shot past Rory McCreesh to give the home outfit a 3-1 cushion at half time.

Skipper’s header

The Bluebirds added a fourth shortly after the interval when Steff Williams’ corner was met by a powerful Sean Pemberton header.

Dalling also added his second of the match, when the striker pounced from inside the box, following good work in midfield by Greg Walters and Kieran O’Brien for goal number five.

The Bluebirds added a sixth in the 66th minute as striker Ashley Bevan beat the offside trap and showed good composure to finish clinically past McCreesh.

With the points in the bag the home side conceded a penalty when defender Matthew Broome committed a foul inside the box and Hood drilled in the resulting spot kick.

On Tuesday, 4th April, Haverfordwest County travel to Penybont to play Bridgend Street in the semi-final of the League Cup.
