Bluebirds crash out of Welsh Cup against high-flying Airbus UK

FAW Welsh Cup – Round 3

Airbus UK Broughton 5 – Haverfordwest County 0

Airbus UK Broughton proved far too strong for Welsh League Division One leaders Haverfordwest County, scoring five goals without reply to ease into the fourth round.

The Wingmakers are an established Welsh Premier outfit and are sitting fourth in the table, so on paper this cup clash in Flintshire, north Wales was always an uphill task for Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds outfit to cause an upset and progress into the next round.

Fine headers

Airbus deservedly led 2-0 at half time, courtesy of two headed goals by Jonny Spittle and Ellis Healing. The Wingmakers dominated the second period with Glenn Rule, Jordan Barrow and Jake Eyre scoring further goals to seal a comfortable passage.

Honest analysis

Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones was honest after the game with his analysis of the cup-tie shortly after the final whistle.

“The younger players in the squad now realise what a big step up playing in Welsh Premier will be like if we gained promotion. No complaints, Airbus are a well organised team and they thoroughly deserved their margin of victory.”
