Bluebirds are shot down by Old Gold
Welsh Premier Carmarthen Town eased to a three-goal victory against Haverfordwest County at Richmond Park.

The visitors were given a reality check of the divide between Welsh Premier and Welsh League Division One.

Mark Aizlewood’s Old Gold team took the lead within a minute as Sacha Walters sneaked into the box and finished clinically.

Nicky Palmer missed a golden opportunity to equalise against his former team-mates.

Liam Thomas doubled his side’s lead in the 33rd minute, again some poor defending by the visitors allowed the striker to finish from inside the box.

The visitors kept possession well, but were not clinical in the final third of the pitch.

Harsh learning curve

Thomas added his second goal on the hour mark and that effectively killed the game off.

Bluebirds’ manager Wayne Jones said: “We came up against a top side today; playing against a quality Welsh Premier team is the bench mark for our young squad. They have to learn from this display and move on.”

Haverfordwest County play Afan Lido at home in the Word Cup on Wednesday, 13th August at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium. Then on Saturday, August 16th the Bluebirds play away to Penybont in the first Welsh League Division One fixture of the season.

Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris; Ricky Watts; Spencer Williams; Dale Griffiths; Sam Rodon; Jack Britton; Nicky Palmer; Sean Pemberton; Declan Carroll; Jordan Follows; Greg Walters. Substitutes: Laurie Haworth; Chris O’Sullivan; Sam Wilson; Dan Evans.
