Snooker finalists

Gary Lee and Martin Ayres won the Powell Cup snooker cup recently after an enthralling last frame victory at the British Legion Club.

The Black Rabbit pair gained the win in the deciding frame of a five frame final against Terry McBride and Simon Pearce of the Balfour Club.

The opening frame was a close affair with the Black Rabbit pair winning the frame on the high colours. The Balfour drew level in the second frame, a 32 break from Terry making sure of victory.

The Black Rabbit took the lead again in the third frame with breaks of 14 and 35 from Gary, and the Balfour drew level again with two small breaks and some excellent safety play.
Martin took the initiative in the deciding frame with a well-constructed break of 32 to ensure the Black Rabbit lifted the cup.

The referees were Malcolm King and Ian Ashworth, and the Legion were thanked for their hospitality.

Terry takes singles crown

Terry McBride recently lifted the county snooker singles crown with a great display of potting at the Milford Haven Conservative Club.

His opponent, Jason Hackett, made a fair game of it, but Terry pounced on any mistakes he made and his safety play proved crucial.

In a best of five frames final, Balfour A team player Terry struck in the first frame with a break of 14, but Jason hit back with a well-constructed break of 21. After a bout of safety play a mistake from Jason let Terry in for another 14 and he potted most of the low colours to ensure victory in the first frame.

Terry again took the lead in the second frame with a nice break of 37, and Jason pulled back the arrears with a 12, 15 and an eight. Another error from Jason let Terry in for a 13 and after a safety battle Terry potted the primary colours to take the second frame.

Terry took the initiative again in the third frame with a break of 21 and Jason chipped in with a 16. Manchester Club player Jason missed a golden opportunity to take frame and again Terry stepped in with a great break of 41 to ensure he lifted the singles crown,

Big thanks to the Conservative Club for hosting the final, and some of their players for refereeing the game, and Peggy Sandy for the wonderful buffet
