A very special event is to take place at Angle Football Ground on Sunday, August 28th when the local football club celebrates its 50th birthday after starting out in the year that England won the World Cup against Germany at Wembley Stadium.

But there were equally important goings on in the seaside village where some real characters that were led by Mike Hughes (Hon Secretary) and Peter Thomas (Chairman) sorted out a pitch which now has the reputation of being one of the best in the county, superb changing facilities and the reputation of being one of the most welcoming clubs in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League.

Now the first team is doing well in the top echelon of local football, there is a strong interest in second team football in Division Four and, perhaps most importantly, a thriving under 14 team.

So there will be much to celebrate at the 50th birthday party, which starts with a noon kick-off time as Angle Under 14’s take on Narberth Under 14’s.

These include:

A real football extravaganza

After the ‘Golden Oldies’ match at  3.00pm an Angle XI will take on a Pembrokeshire League XI squad to be invited by Gary Dawes which will hopefully feature a lot of the squad from last year’s Pembs League side.

The referees for the day confirmed so far are Pedr McMullen, Chris Stapleton and Steve Williams.

Also in attendance will be representatives of the Pembrokeshire League and to round off a wonderful day of celebrations a barbecue and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon
